my intelligent battery is not showing it's smarts,

first of all, I have a powerbook 540c, with dual batteries. One of them is reconized and goes through all of the diagnostics like a dream, the other just is being stubborn, the PB REFUSES to recognize it, and none of the Utilities can see it etiher!!!
does anyone have a VSY charger for the 5x0 batteries that I could send my battery to to be recondtioned?
or is there any software utility to probe the firmware and bring my poor battery from it's stupor?
please help!!!

Probably a dead memory chip. They are Un-Repairable. If you recell the battery it will hold a charge, but you will never be able to recondition using EMMpathy or others like it.

Here is what came up as a solution from another Powerbook list. Some have reported success with this procedure. I haven't tried it so I don't know if it will work

Did you try the Intelligent Battery Recondition "trick"?

Plug power supply in, remove battery.
Fire up IBR
Answer the prompts until it tells you that you need to install the battery.
Install the battery in the right-hand bay.
Let IBR do it's thing.
Run Battery Amnesia a couple three times.

end quote...

Hope this works for you

i have done this trick a couple of times. start intelligent battery recondition then insert battery when it asks, it will then give the battery an extended charge, after quit IBR and remove battery then restart IBR and insert battery again when it asks, it should then give it another extended charge. if you don't quit IBR it won't give an extended charge. i had to repeat this process several times before my 540c recognised the battery.

that worked, but don't rejoice too soon.....

It recognized the battery, but it says that it has a shorted cell. is there any way other than taking the battery apart, and discharging a capacator into the shorted cell?

I'd kinda like to avoid parting the gawddang battery at this time.
thanks
