I would like to download all the email messages I have on hotmail. I know I can download all these messages into outlook express but is there any way to get the messages to download as separate text or html files?. I dont like the idea of having my all my messages in a single microsoft format file.

Any help, suggestions?

AFAIK, the only way to archive hotmail messages is to copy and paste the text into another text document and save it. Goddamn Mordor$oft...

The program you want is Mail Forward I spent a long time looking for something that could do this for my girlfriend. The only version I could find on versiontracker is for OS X but there is deffinetly an older copy for OS 9. If you need more help I'll try and dig out the copy from my old computer.

Ok I looked on www.download.com this time and here is a link

http://download.com.com/3000-2149-8306586.html?tag=lst-0-1

if that doesn't work type "mail forward" in the search box.

Hope it works out.

If I forward the hotmail messages to another email address is there a program that will download every email as a seperate file?, maybe eudora or something...

Thanks

I think Claris emailer saves emails as seperate files. I don't think it supports HTML or images properly though. But I guess thats not a big deal if you want to print them all out. There is also something called mail archive or mail converter. I think it's based on filemaker pro that can convert emails between a lot of formats and can probably output them as seperate files.

Do you know the file that Outlook Express stores all the emails?. Is it in a cache file or something. I can't find the proper one and it'd be good to know if I had to back up my computer

thanks,

I don't have OE installed on any of my machines at the moment. However what you are looking for is either in the documents folder of the preferences folder. It's something like microsoft user data, or perhaps user data within the microsoft preferences folder. I'd sugest just searching for all the data folders, there shouldn't be many and one should be the one you want.

However I would still recomend looking for that program I mentioned, mail archive or something. I think it imports emails from almost any program and puts them in to some kind of standalone FM database (that doesn't require FM to be installed)and lets you export it in all sorts of other formats, surely including seperate plain text files.
