First, I'd push the power button, the hard drive would spin up and clunk around, but I'd get no video. Naturally, I thought that it might be the Video Card and/or monitor that didn't work, so I tried a different monitor, to no avail. I then tried the Video Card in my PM 7100, and it worked, with all the monitors I tried. It's a Macintosh Display Card 670 (Called an 8-24, I believe.) Then I thought it could be the PRAM batteries (I read somewhere that the big 6 slot II series machines needed good PRAM batteries to boot), so I replaced them, to no avail. I then reseated all the RAM, ROM, HD/Floppy connections, with no result. I also tried numerous keyboard/mouse combinations, because someone told me that some Macs won't boot if they don't have a working keyboard and/or mouse. The hard drive works, and has a working system on it (it's been tried in my IIsi.) I The only thing I could think of then is possibly the RAM, and being 64 pin, I have no other RAM to swap into it, and no way to test it. Now, the power supply fan won't spin up, and I get no result from pressing the power key. I've searched Google, AV, Lycos and Yahoo. I've racked the brains of the best at AppleFritter, and they still come up puzzled. I'm rather puzzled, and of course, any help or any resources you could let me know about would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Peter Real Men Use 68k |

Please forgive me if this is a rather stupid question, but have you tried starting it by pushing the "Power" key on your ADB keyboard(s), or have you just been pressing the on/off button on the back of the machine? I had a Mac II some years back, and I thought it was dead for about 2 years, until I realized that just pushing the power button on the back won't start those machines all of the time... Anyway, this is just a thought... Good luck! SpaceBoyOfficial MLA Raconteur AppleBASIC FOREVER! No, it's not at all a stupid question! I did try pressing the power key on the keyb. Still no go. Thanks for the suggestion though. Real Men Use 68k |

If I leave my IIfx sitting for a while, like a couple of weeks, then it exhibits the same problem as you are having (no booting). I have left it plugged in for a few hours then pushed the button on the back firmly a couple of times (on-off-on-off-on). Somewhere in this cycle the thing boots with a chime. Note: this isn't really good for hard drives :IHope this works for you Kami
