Dana! The Audiomedia II and Nuvista cards arrived today!!!

Wahoo! Great packaging, by the way...it took me a while to get them out! I'm going to set the 840av up right now and try out the Audiomedia, then later I'll try the Nuvista in either a 7100 or a IIci.

Darn...still can't get ProTools running. It's not the AMII's fault, that's definitely registering in TattleTech, I just keep getting this DAE error same as before. I tried reinstalling OMS but no luck...ProTools 3.2 will not run. I need to get a copy of 4.0.1 instead, it should be easier to get up and running.

The free Pro Tools 3.4 worked ok with my Audiomedia card

It's at

http://www.oakbog.com/PT3NuBus.html

http://www.oakbog.com/assets/ProTools3_4.sit

Plus there's some useful info there as well.

And you could just try different versions of the digi init.

Digi init versions 2.5 to 2.9.5 seemed to work ok.

They are at the digidesign support legacy dae/dsi downloads page

I was just reading on the site that an 840av with an AudioMedia II will run ProTools 3.4 with 4 available tracks. That really isn't so much of a problem, since one can just continuously bounce those four tracks to a two and keep working, and keep archives of the originals given enough disk space. All I need now to complete my 840av is two hefty 68-pin SCSI drives (9GB or more) to put in a RAID in the external, 68-pin SCSI tower I bought. Then it'll be ready to ship off to my Brother in Seattle to become his audio/video workstation!

Heck, it's not like you need much more than four tracks. Piano, guitar, bass, drums, and maybe a lead instrument or vocal.

Well, four tracks is only two stereo tracks, so my brother will only be able to work with two instruments at a time. He has a full drum kit, three truntables, and several guitars and basses!

Seeing that your mac is an AV you might try to get DigiTrax.

It uses the av's DSP (so it's pretty fast) and can do 6 tracks.

see

topic.asp.TOPIC_ID=2501.html

And there is also Deck II.

I think that uses the av's DSP as well.

I hav'nt tried either of them but they seem like a good choice for a av mac.

My Audiomedia I only does 2 tracks but it sounds good.

I have Deck II and Sound Designer II already, both of which take advantage of the AMII fairly well, I'll give DigiTrax a try too. The more options the merrier!
