Can anyone give me the specs of an Performa 6115 CD and is $60 including monitor too much ? I saw it at a thrift store and was wondering if it's worth the money. Is it better then a Centris 650 ?

Depends on the monitor and ram and HD methinks, as for its absolute value... Its full specs at everymac com are at:

http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_performa/stats/mac_performa_6115cd.html

and those of the centris 650 are at:

http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_centris/stats/mac_centris_650.html

The biggies are that the 6115 has the 60mhz PPC, a funky weird monitor connector, one PDS slot and definite ethernet - where the C650 has a 25Mhz 040, normal monitor, 3xnuBus and one PDS, and -might- have ethernet. That's from my point of view anyhows :).

Well said Dana. However, I'll have to move this to the Lounge, seeing as though its mainly a PPC question.

Don't buy it unless it has a G3 upgrade card. You can find 6100s for free if you look hard enough. I found two.

In comparison to a C650, it's quite a bit faster, but the 6100 mobo video has no VRAM, using system memory instead, so video performance may seem a bit sluggish. It'll feel like a snail unless it has a L2 cache.

Exactly. It might also be a good idea to see if it has an AV card, HPV (High Performance Video) card or some other form of video card. The 6115's onboard video isn't great, and any of these cards work wonders compared to the onboard video. Plus, they're compatible with the G3 upgrade, so you can have both at once.

The greatest 6100 site ever made is http://www.kan.org/6100
This guy has an incredible amount of information on upgrades, specs, benchmarks, peripherals, etc. I own a 6115 and have found this site to be a huge time saver.
If you get a 6100, make sure it has a G3 upgrade and make sure this upgrade has 1MB of L2 cache. If you have 1MB then the entire screen contents get cached making the system just feel faster and making a video card unneccesary (unless you need millions of colors or video I/O). If you can, get a 61xx/66. They cost the same as the 61xx/60 and have a bus which is 10% faster. This will make G3 upgrades run 10% faster which can be a substantial improvement. The fastest upgrade I know of is Sonnet's 500MHz G3. It has 1MB L2 cache and also doubles the bus speed.

Make sure you're getting an HDI-45 monitor! Adapters are cheap on eBay, but it's a pain

Now that's interesting, I have a 400MHz Sonnet G3 with 1 MB of L2 cache in my 6360 and the video never seemed all that slow, I wonder if the same thing situation applies?

I was surprised when I found out recently that it was RAM based and considered slow. I'd put a PCI card in it to get more pixels, but the speed difference isn't all that noticeable, but I don't use this machine continuously since getting my G4.

Well, it does come with a monitor and the special adapter.
I guess the only way to find out what's inside is to turn it on and view the profile.

Just pop off the top and see for yourself. There are two tabs at the back of the case, and the lid should just lift off. It'll be pretty obvious if there is a G3 card installed.
