As promised, my discussion on last weekend's tornado outbreak. Talked about it in Meteorology 216 Tuesday, and some more today. This outbreak is up there among some of the largest, there with Palm Sunday of 1965, or Oklahoma City and area back in May 1999. Definitely the biggest since the OKC outbreak. Here's a page from the SPC [Storm Prediction Center] of all severe weather reports from Sunday http://www.spc.noaa.gov/climo/reports/021110_rpts.html 75 tornado reports!!! And the many many more wind/hail reports! I'm sure that by now most everyone has heard about some of the worst twisters, such as in Tennesee, Alabama, and Ohio. I take special interest in the F4 that hit Van Wert, OH, since I'm from the area. I've seen video of it, it was a good sized wedge on the ground, just destroying anything in the way. As it was happening, I was here at college looking at Doppler radar, kind of wishing that VUSIT [Valparaiso University Storm Intercept Team] had gone on a chase that day. But, I'll be passing through the area in about a week, so I'm sure I'll still be able to see plenty of damage from this thing. The National Wx Service Nrn. Indiana office has some info on the Ohio twisters, at http://www.crh.noaa.gov/iwx/tornadoesnov10.shtml That's all for now, it's time for physics homeworkmacdaddy - 68KMLA Field Meteorologist 68Ks at my base: Q840AV,Q800, Q605, D280/DuoDock II,P550, LC 475,LCIII+,(2) LCIIIs,IIci, P410,LCII,Mac II Contraband: (2) PM G3/300 MTs, P6360, 5400/120,Q700/PPC 601, (2) 6100/66s Edited by - macdaddy on 14 Nov 2002 22:09:12
