Anyone has any experience with hooking up a Sun monitor to an 68K mac ? I have a very nice 17" in the basement but don't know if there's an adapter for it .

Depending on the sun monitor, it may be a fixed frequency monitor. In that case you will have locate a suitable res and frequency and make the mac output it.
