Hi, I have a LCII with a 80mb harddrive and 10mb of ram. I was thinking about getting one of those sonnet presto plus upgrades for it so I can make it a chat client on my network. Has anyone used the "Presto Plus"? Do they work well? Where is a good place to buy one? Also, does anyone know where I can get a cd-rom "caddy"? LOL I can't find one anywere! |

I've never used a sonnett product at all, but id imagine even that upgrade would be prettu expensive. As for caddies, check out the trading post, stuff goes through there all the time. The Sonnet Presto Plus, while is a great board, is probably not really worth it. Y'see, by the time you put in an LC475 board, with the full 1 meg of VRAM, 32 megs of RAM, OS 8.1 and an ethernet card, you will have the exact same product, but at a lower price. The mobo upgrade would even be better in some ways, as you could upgrade your VRAM to 1 meg, and run a 17" monitor in 8 bit colour. Plus, the 475 gives you a true 32 bit architecture, as even with the Presto Plus, you'll still be running on an LCII logic board, complete with a cruddy 16 bit bus, which unneccessarily bogs down a 16 Mhz '030 enough, let alone a 33 Mhz '040 running OS 8.1. Plus, I'm willing to bet you could probably get a bare 475 board for free. -------------------------- Give your dreams a chance.™ - Apple in the mid '90s Warrior maclover5 68k Macintosh Liberation Army Number of 68ks Liberated: 6
