I was bored, so I made a 70 meg 8.1 ram disk on my 840av, copied the system folder to it, plus snood, netscape, and aim. I restarted it and pulled the power to the hard drive before the mac scanned the bus, and now I have a really quiet, fast 68k mac. It starts up in about 10 seconds! It is strange browsing the net without the noise of a hard drive clicking...
And this will save on the power consumption, since I can't really shut it down without losing settings-it won't boot with a pram battery installed.

i booted my 8600 onto a ram disk to play unreal (when i had 768 meg ram) it was fast and also nice to hear how quite it was. Solid state is the way to go . I'd use that for a server if it weren't for the problems of an unexpected shutdown.

Don't use the RAM disk apple it's like an EEPROM when you shutdown your mac datas are lost.Search on the web a freeware. That exist.
