Schweet! Another free 1710! Great monitors, aren't they? Mine's only a standard 1710, rather than a 1710AV, but still, its a damn nice monitor for the price (free), and it totally ROCKS on my LC475! Oh, and you should see how movies look on it on my LC630! Btw, i got mine for free too...i guess most of us here remember all the fanfare i made when i announced i was getting one for free, right?

i got a free 16" apple display, the fixed frequency one. 832x624. It's my second display on the beige g4, a little dark but man it can wake from sleep REALLY quickly!

Y'know, you can actually boost it to 832x624 on your 630, although it'll only be in 8 bit colour (256 colours). However, then you won't be able to run Apple Video Player in full screen mode.

wait how? i think i remember doing that before, with a 14 inch vga monitor instead of the 13 inch apple one. though that may have been n my quadra 610. but i tried increasing the resolution, and even at 4 and 8 bit color, the onl;y option it gives me is 640x480

Have you got the monitor's ADB cable plugged in? Also, you need the AppleVision 1710 software to get resolutions any higher. You can get it off Apple's FTP site.

yes on the adb cable, no on the software...
i had an applevision extention in the extensions folder, but i trashed that and just installed the applevision 1.5.3 software, and everything works fine now. thanks for the help there.

It wasn't a Mac monitor, but a few months ago I managed to get a 17" Viewsonic monitor for $15 that is both Mac/PC compatible, it is a big, hulking beast but hey, for the price, who's gonna complain?
It's hooked to the PC, unfortunately -I had to figure out a way to preserve my current SAF level without getting rid of any Macintosh hardware. The PowerMac 6400 has a AppleMulti Scan 15" hooked up, it works...
