Well, i think I just found it. I tried booting my G3 in jag, and I got a "do not enter/delete" symbol, the one that is a circle with a line through it....I wonder what it means exactly....

yep.... been there, done that. What my experience is that it failed the hdd check at the very beginning of startup, probably the catalog tree thing is jacked up. Try running norton, if you have it. Start up with verbose mode (option - v) and see what it says.

What's worse is the broken glass sound. That's what will give you nightmares. Btw, i managed to get the broken glass sound by installing in compatable "pc" ram.

I know what you mean. When i was working on that Performa 5260 at the Shop (the one that i took for a bath), i tried removing one of the SIMMs and powering up. I got the death chime. I had always liked the Performa's death chime, although that was not the time i wanted to hear it.

what you do.....

connect apple certified CD rom drive
*note
termination is a must!

boot into 9.X
put 10.2 CD 1 into external drive
go into 10.2 install CD
double click "install"
hit "restart"
hold "CMD+V"
if it gets to a black screen incolor then you wait....
backup ALL files before installing, unless you have a spare SCSI 2GB drive on hand, then hook that up, and install to that. also, install OS9 disk drivers. very usefull.
