Hi. I'm new here but i thought i'd share a little info in case any of you are in texas...there is a place called electronic discount sales and they have around a hundred different macs for about 10 bucks a pop (from SE's to 8100's. Seriously.) They all come as is, but for most of y'all, i'm guessing that's not a terrible problem. However...I have a bit of a horror story for you (i know, halloween was two days ago, but still)I bought (foolishly) a powerbook 5300cs for 150. It worked...sort of, but honestly, the only other computer i had was an imac, and trying to find stuff (inexpensively) to get them to play nice together was too much. So i decided to sell it. Y'know, after buying the GV card for it and everything. Of course, the day I was going to return it, the AC connector went dead. So i had a dead (sort of) PB 5300, a Palm VII, and a GV modem to sell. My total? 10 bucks. I was *this* close to buying a Quadra 950 (for the sheer hell of it) but, alas...cigarettes called my name. So, in closing...Electronic Discount Sales=great place to buy a mac and hope for the best. It's located in Arlington, on Collins and Pioneer Parkway. Does anyone have anything similar to share at all? |

Hey, I finally got by there. They have some pretty cool Mac gadgets in there! Quadra 650s, Laserwriters, AppleVision monitors, PM 6400s, 6500s, 7100s, etc. Now where do I get started? They had the Quadra 650s for $9.99! Would that be a good deal, or no? What I was really looking at is one of the 7100s, they were like $100 or something.... Just feel like goin' retro since I've never done it before...

Buy the 650! It's a nice machine, and it will run A/UX well. The 7100s are overpriced at $100. See if you can get the 6500 for $50 or less. It's a nice machine that has accelerated video, an ATA HD (cheap to upgrade), a relatively fast processor, and two PCI slots. A/UX is Apple's version of UNIX for the 68k Macs. There's an article at http://www.applefritter.com/ about it. It's a really nice OS, kind of like OS X for 68k Macs. Google for Gamba's Mac OS page for where to get it.Official 68kMLA Music and NeXT Expert Macs Liberated: SE (2), LC, IIsi, PB 145b, Quadra 700 (2), LC 575, 6100 (2), PB 5300, PowerMac 5400/200, Performa 6400/180 PCs liberated from Windoze: 3 |

Big Sale!Buy one get one for 50% off right now at Electronic Discount Sales in Arlington/Irving. So now you can get 2 macs for $15.. What a deal! They've got quite a few Q650/C650's there. But check inside first. If they have a surface mounted CPU, then it is most likely an LC and won't run AUX. 6360av 32/6.4/8.1 ;) SE 4/2000/FDHD/7.0.1 :) Q840av - Alive! Q650 64/2000/A/UX Woot! You'd rather buy cigarettes instead of Macs? Nasty. My mom smoked from High School up to I think 1999/2000. She got really sick and started smoking the light cigarettes and eventually I talked to her and she decided to quit. I took away all of the ash trays and she bought the patches and now she's smoke free, with the money we saved we can afford broadband! :) ====================== Current Macs: iMac G4 (main mac) PowerMac 7300/180 (server) PowerMac 6100/66 (no monitor!) Quadra 610 (no monitor!) Performa 400, upgraded to 475 (busted monitor!) Apple IIe (dead, but I still keep it :,( ) |

Yes, i bought cigs instead of macs but at the time when i went there i was a little miffed to buy anything.Does anyone know if they'll actually let you look inside the machines at EDS in arlington though? i didn't think to poke around and stuff...because of course when i look at it i'm like "ooh, i want it, but where will i put it?" (there's not much space in the house and i don't want to put them in the garage...) but i'm worried about buying a mac and then getting either really frustrated for one reason or another or spending far too much money that i don't have on it to get it working...and i don't quite feel like buying a machine and then finding out i'm missing say, the ROM and scouring everywhere for one, y'know? so any answers to this would be appreciated... on another note, there's a goodwill computer works in fort worth right by the south campus of TCC, by the intersection of campus dr. and riverside...take I-20 to the campus drive exit, drive past TCC (head between the campus and the car dealership) and just go straight ...it dead ends at riverside, and the goodwill is right there. i haven't been there to see if they have any macs though, but they just might... anyway, take care and good luck hunting.
