Wondering if anyone has found in passing any info on the technical aspects of the 128k/512k/SE/Classic black and white screens. Such as are they digital or analog? Or stuff like the description of the wires that take the signal.

Just thinking about hacks and such. Maybe something like stuffing another computer into an SE case and using the b&w screen.

I've googled around for info but have come up dry so far....

Good question. I've read the schematics that Trash linked to, and they look right.

I haven't gotten around to actually wireing anything in tho.

As for your question of digital vs Analog, it depends on where in the video system you wire into.

If I recall correctly (and someone feel free to prove me wrong here) it's a digital signal on the SE mobo, and the Analog board converts it.

Darn... Someone exceeded his website bandwidth... hehehe.

I'll have to check back later to see if it is online. Basically this... I have an arcade cabinet in my garage. The crt has wires on it going to the board, Red, Green, Blue, hsync, vsync, and ground. Knowing the sync range on it allowed me to connect it to a Sony Playstation2, Sega Saturn, Sega Genesis, STB Velocity 128 video card with very minimal effort.

Since I still have not acquired a t15 screwdriver of proper length I can't see how many wires come from the crt to the board on the SE. With any amount of luck, it will be within a range that I can connect something to it.

As far as digital vs analog, the old CGA/EGA monitors on PCs were digital, but VGA is analog.

AH! you're talking some serious beast now...

You can't do ANY kind of colour with a Compact Mac, unless it's an SE/30 or ColorClassic I/II.

Get one of THOSE... and you shouldn't have much of a problem.
