Mac Os 8.1 doesn't recognize my external CD-ROM. I'm using Apple CD-ROM extension (version: 5.3.2). It worked with MacOS 7.5 and MacOs 8 before I accidentally erased my HDD with virtual disk (starter) control panel or something like that. After that, MacOs doesn't recognise my CD-ROM. With Norton Utilities I can scan the SCSI and copy all the files to HDD. Can somebody tell me what extension in need or what I should do so that Mac Os recognize my CD-ROM.

I believe the only extentions you need are Apple CD=ROM and Foreign File access/ Those are the only two I need to access internal/external/Apple/nonApple optical drives in OS 8.1 on my 840av.

You neglected to mention the spec on speed, type and Apple brand status or third party model/mechanism mfr.

High Sierra File Access is strongly recomended. I have many CDs that don't work without it.

I know about Foreign File Access and High Sierra File Access, but these extensions don’t help. There are any labels on CD-ROM but Norton Utilities displayed something about TEAC. I have no idea about model or the speed of the CD-ROM. In the front of CD-ROM is a green light, open/close button, headphone socket and in back: ID jumper, 2 two SCSI sockets and another audio socket. The CD-Rom itself is quite long.

What's sort of CD Rom is ? An apple or another ? Select another ID number at the back of your CD and use a terminator stopper if your cdrom have 2 connectors.

Run TattleTech and see if it tells you if there is an Apple ROM, it sounds like an Apple boat anchor.
