For some time now i've been trying to put the 6 GB HD from my iMac 266 in my Performa 5300. There simply is no way to mount the disk. Finally I pulled the logic board and replaced it with the logic board from a Performa 630. The HD mounted just fine. I formatted it, put system 8 on it, replaced the logic board again with the 5300 and... again no HD. Does anybody now what is going on? (Some older and smaller IDE HD's mount just fine on the Performa 5300.)

Firstly, I was going to lock this thread, but because this question may also concern 630 and 580 series machines, i'll leave it open. That 6 gig drive should work fine on your 5300, but it seems to me that your IDE bus on the 5300 board may be dying. I'm not sure if thats what it is, but i have seen this sort of thing happen on PCs before.

I now realize that the topic is not entirely 68k and thus not entirely appropriate. Sorry for that. Thanks for your insight.

Mfr. and model number would be appropriate in any case.
