I put a a new 28MB RAM chip in my Duo 280c, along with a new PRAM battery, a new 500MB hard drive and a new Type III battery. However, it still won't power up. I plug it into the AC adapater and the green LED on the display lights up but no matter whether you use the button on the inside or the back, nothing happens. This is the same way it was when I got it and all the new components don't seemed to have helped. What's worse, now my Duo 280 won't power up either. The 230MB drive in the 280 was shot, so i took the 320MB that was in the 280c and put it in the 280, but now it won't power up at all even though it used to at least turn on and sit there at the blinking question mark screen. What the heck's going on??? 666th poster to the 68K Macintosh Liberation Army Forums Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 5 |

Perhaps the 280c is just I assume you zapped the PRAM on it and did a CUDA reset on both of them (if duos have CUDA buttons)... FireWire is fast General, 4 star Forum moderator 68k Macintosh Liberation Army |

Well, no, Duos don't have Cuda's. And, I was going to zap the PRAM on both after replacing the PRAM batteries, but they don't even turn on at all. Nothing... UI feel like a dunce because I spent so much money getting all this stuff for the 280c for nothing. I suppose I could re-sell it all back on eBay and make most of the money back... 666th poster to the 68K Macintosh Liberation Army Forums Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 5 Edited by - cinemafia on 27 Dec 2001 10:23:39 |

From what it sounds like, either the HD, motherboard, or RAM is dead. (IE: No startup chime at all)If you can get both systems apart, try swapping various components from one system to another to see if you can get one to work at least (Meaning try the 280 Motherboard in the 280c, 500MB HD in 280, etc.) The 280 and 280c are the same design, so components can be swappable. If you can only get the 280 working, you can swap the display, video controller board, and casing to make it a 280c. Worst case scenerio is that both motherboards are dead. ------------------ Captain Z - Sniper 68K Macintosh Liberation Army 17 68K Macs Liberated |
