Just swapped a IIsi ROM into my SE/30 running A/UX 3.1. What, if anything, will the IIsi ROM do in regards to A/UX? (I didn't have MODE32 or any similar 32-bit enabler intalled before, and A/UX seemed to run fine.) Will it increase stability, allow certain apps to run, what? AFAIK the 32-bit version of the A/UX Finder ran fine before, with the stock SE/30 dirty ROM...TIA Matt No rank Permanent 68k roommates: Q605 w/full '040, 36/1.2G/enet/7.6.1/NetBSD SE/30 w/IIsi ROM, 20/500/enet/A/UX |

How much RAM? The dirty ROMs only affect how much memory can be addressed, not whether 32 bit addressing will work for apps and O.S. support on an 030, IIRC. AFAIK you just want to make sure you don't run any 32 bit dirty code and A/UX is 32 bit clean by definition. It has been a LONG time since I played with that stuff and I never even tried A/UX, tho. jt ™. ll it really does is make the memory management 32 bit clean, and properly addressable.I'm not familiar with how A/UX deals with memory, but in the Mac OS, replaeing that ROM in the SE/30 can definatly reduce memory related crashes and corruption. The kludge that is used to deal with the 32bit dirty ROMs causes rot in RAM. ~Marchie ~Chaplain Marchie Admin of The WonderLAN ~~"We are all Mad here"~~ |

I just read thru my printed copy of the A/UX FAQ, and there is no mention of 24 bit vs 32 bit ROMS. Maybe the IIsi ROM will help with the stability on an SE/30? ~Marchie ~Chaplain Marchie Admin of The WonderLAN ~~"We are all Mad here"~~ |
