You might have guessed already. It's a Next box! A Nextstation to be exact. 68030, Ethernet... EDIT: Well now... I guess it's a 25MHz 68040... I thought the original slab used a 30... oh well! But I don't have a keyboard or monitor!! If someone has an "extra" Next keyboard, I REALLY want it now. I'm going to pick up a DB19 connector today after work and wire up a video connection. but the keyboard is the ONLY way to turn these thigns on... so it'll sit in the corner, lonely, until someone has a board I can get... ~Marchie ~Chaplain Marchie Admin of The WonderLAN ~~"We are all Mad here"~~ Edited by - marchie on 25 Oct 2002 08:56:03 |

Congratulations! I hope it has an OS and everything. If not, NeXTStep 3.3 is on a Hotline server linked to at http://next.z80.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=software;action=display;num=1035200655 A standard Apple SCSI CD-ROM should work with an adapter cable, and Zip and Jaz drives should also work. You probably don't want to run OpenStep; it's really slow on the black NeXT boxes. Be sure to max out the RAM and upgrade the HD; it uses 30-pin SIMMs and standard 50 pin SCSI hard drives. FYI, all the slabs were 040 machines. The normal ones run at 25 MHz, and the turbo slabs run at 33 MHz. The slabs are black and white unless they're marked "NeXTstation Color". IIRC, the keyboard and mouse are both standard ADB devices.-------------------------- Give your dreams a chance.™ - Apple in the mid '90s Warrior maclover5 68k Macintosh Liberation Army Number of 68ks Liberated: 6

I found that blackholeinc.com has the keyboard I want... specifically for $25 and $10 shipping... which is $10 more than I paid for the Slab itself! It's an 040 greyscale, and requires a NON-ADB keyboard. I have the mouse already tho! I've already started designing the cables I need to make to run this off an older VGA monitor, and still wire in the keybard and such... Unless I find a HUGE deal I'm not bying a monitor via mail. ~Marchie ~Chaplain Marchie Admin of The WonderLAN ~~"We are all Mad here"~~ |

I'll have to check that site for TLP, is this the type of KBD you're getting?http://www.channelu.com/Turbo/NeXT/i/keynadb1a.jpg Mouse piccies: http://www.channelu.com/Turbo/NeXT/i/mousenabt1a.jpg http://www.channelu.com/Turbo/NeXT/i/mousenabb1a.jpg jt ™. On the later slabs, yes. The earlier slabs did not use ADB. quote: I've already started designing the cables I need to make to run this off an older VGA monitor, and still wire in the keybard and such...
I assume you mean SVGA. 640x480 resolution is way too small to use for anything. Official 68kMLA Music and NeXT Expert Macs Liberated: SE (2), LC, IIsi, PB 145b, Quadra 700 (2), LC 575, 6100 (2), PB 5300, PowerMac 5400/200, Performa 6400/180 PCs liberated from Windoze: 3 |
