ok, anybody here deal with with aol's broadband (dsl) and mac? a friend of mine (clueless of computers) just got his first mac and he can't figure aol out and i don't have a clue either. AOL tech support tell him to call southwestern bell (that it's there problem) but from what he tells me, the mac can't see his modem. He's on a dhcp router and networking is fine. AOL just sucks goat nuts and doesn't work.

hmmmm... maybe it has something to do with the fact that AOL sucks nuts?

First, tell him to try connecting to the net using a traditional browser, like IE or Netscape. If he can get out, it's AOL.

Somewhere in the prefrences, there is an option for the AOL "browser" (if you can call it that), to use broadband services. That should do the trick.

They don';t call it America OffLine for nuthin! . . . well, maybe that's exac . . .

Whatever, IIRC, AOL sucks on a sphincter normally located somewhere behind the overt genitalia.

hmm... I hought AOL only offered ok-ish obcenely overpriced dial up... heh. they say that AOL has things that limit people's time online, when in reality, it is because lazy @$$ kids won't install netscape because they don't have as many "fetures", or, "mass colin secretion coverd fecal relocation material"!! ok. that was gross. me stop now.

well... things got ugly and from only talking to him via aol (although he lives down the street from me i can't stop by, long story) it sounds like his dad (a networking dude for compaq) has a hideously ugly network setup and the mac is getting to their router but the router won't let it to the cable modem. So I've given up and he's waiting til his dad gets home.

Also as a side note what is going on with his internet is that aol is contracting southwestern bell's "high speed" dsl. So basically swb gives him the internet connection and his aol login is for the aol "Features" (which i use VERY loosely). I might not be 100% correct with all this since he doesn't have the first clue of anything, i was asking him questions like "where is the blue wire connected to?", but i think this sorta sums it up.

I hate aol, microsoft, and stuck up chicks in college classes that think they know everything and can't shut their face.
