Hi there,I recently bought a cable that look like like a PC parallel to LocalTalk. One end is a DB25 male connector (parallel) and the other is a male DIN8 connector. Usually, LocalTalk bear the double-arrows symbol but his one does'nt. So my question are : 1. Is it a LocalTalk <-> parallel cable ? 2. Can I use it to network my Mac to my PC ? 3. Can I use it to connect my LW IInt to my PC ? Thanks ho guru for you insight :D :wq |

nothing as lucky as that, if it is what I think it is. does it have any electronics on it that you can see, or is it just like a cable? Is it centronics (IE, kind of like the end of the scsi cable that plugs into the end of ext. hard drives) or is it a DB (the end of the SCSI cable that plugs into the mac)if it is DB25 Male to DIN 8(if that is what mac serial is) male, it is a serial cable, maybe to connect small serial printers, like label printers to a PC. if it is any other configuration, post some piccies up for us to see, there is a link to free image hosting in the lounge. Sounds like a modem cable like the one I had (have?) for my Migent Pocket Modem, if it's a straight thru modem cable you could use a DB25 Null modem adapter to transfer files. If it's already a null-modem cable it might be a LapLink file transfer cable. You need a IIf or IIg board for your IInt to do serial printing from your PC, IIRC. With a IIg board you can do ethernet tho. Maybe "Dave" would let you print from a PC shared thru one of your Macs if you set it up as a localtalk bridge, dunno. A IIg board would probably cost less. jt ™. Trash Hauler: call sign: eight-ball C.O. AC-130H SpecOps 68kMLAAF |

DB25 is more often used for 25 pin Serial then it is for Parralel. Most of my modems have a 25 pin serial port on the back. I'm almost 100% positive you just have a standard Mac Modem cable. Useful with devices that require hardware handshaking actually. ~Marchie -- It's a bird! It's a plane! No, it's SuperMod™!!! |
