I have a variation of the checkerboard problem on a Classic II. Additionally to the usual checker pattern, there is also vertical line about 1/8" large with color contrasting with the background checkerboard (the vertical line is black when passing over a white square and vice-versa. There is also horizontal smudge also alternating with the background square. It is really hard to describe, but here is a photo (sorry for the bad quality it is a cap from a Hi8 camera) :http://www.photoaccess.com/share/gSlideShow.jsp?imgIndex=3&jrunsessionid=1035336510031281654&cb=PA&svr=web3&ID=AF78C5350E7 I noticed on the cap near the flyback transformer on the analog board seem a bit loose. It is also quite tilted ont side. Since the cap is cover with a rubber sleeve that dried and glue, it is hard to tell. Since I am a bit afraid of getting zapped I don't want to play too much with it. Here is a photo of the offending capacitor : http://www.photoaccess.com/share/gSlideShow.jsp?imgIndex=0&jrunsessionid=1035336510031281654&cb=PA&svr=web3&ID=AF78C5350E7 Thanks for your help, I'll take any tip that could help save that poor Classic ! :wq |

I think a checkerboard display is usually caused by a dead battery. Did you check that?-------------------------- Classic, Performa 630, Duo 250, Quadra 610 (+ Performa 5300, Powerbook 1400, iMac 266, iMac 400, TiBook; but those don't count here) |

Does anybody have the schematic for the Classic II analog board ? I plan on ether resoldering or replacing the loose. I would also look at other potential problem on the analog board. Thanks !:wq |

Again, this is *EXTREMELY* common, you either have badly seat ram or ram card or a component on the mb has gone south. I've seen it HUNDREDS of times over the years.jag http://www.jagshouse.com-classic Mac site Mac goodies for sale. 128, 512, Plus, SE, SE30, Classic, CII, CC, II, IIX, IICX, IICI, IISI, IIVX, IIFX, MacTV, 575, 660AV, 840AV, Q700, Q900, Q950, 6100 - 6500, 7100 - 7600, 8500, 8600, 9500, 9600, iMac G4 |

Again, an analog board problem isn't going to cause a nice, regular (digital) checkerboard display. You may indeed have an analog problem, too, but fix the checkerboard problem first. It's on the logic board.
