Here's what my Apple Support page says about the status of my PowerBook G4's repair:
quote:

10/18/2002 02:21:00 PT Unit In Burn-In
10/18/2002 02:21:00 PT Waiting to be Shipped
10/17/2002 19:11:00 PT Unit in Repair
10/17/2002 18:41:00 PT Unit Received
10/14/2002 15:14:00 PT Request Acknowledged

Hmm, wonder what they did... I'm glad that I know what the term 'Burn-In' means- I bet a lot of folks who see that panic! "Oh my GOD! They're BURNING my PowerBook! Arrrrrgh!!!
:-)
Later, folks!

Well, I called a littl while ago, and got the skinny on what was done:

  • They replaced the DVD drive, and also the mount for the drive
  • They replaced the screen latch and bezel

  • They replaced the 'case top', which I presume means the area with the palm rests

  • And lastly, they replaced the trackpad! Woohoo!

The guy said that they'd put the hard drive through testing, and no problems were found, but that the problem that the DVD drive was having could have been causing the hard disk to 'disapear' like it's been doing. That sounds okay to me.
Anyway, I'm so glad that this has been taken care of so quickly! Kudos to Apple for jumping all over this.

PS I'm gonna call MBNA (the folks who are financing the purchase of this PowerBook) and see if I can get them to cover an AppleCare warranty- if I learned anything from thie all, it's that I really need the security of the AppleCare plan for as long as I can have it...
