I tried to hook up an LC to a AppleColor High Resolution RGB monitor using a DB-15 cable I bought at an electronics store. Nothing came up on the monitor. I know the LC works. I believe that the monitor works, so the question is, are there special tyes of DB-15 cables for Mac monitors? The one I got was generic from a PC-centric parts store. The guy at the store mentioned high density DB-15, but I hadn't heard of it. Anyone know what cable I need? The LC is my first 68K Mac and I'm excited to get it working, but so far the monitor thing has been a puzzle. |

Is this an original pizzabox LC? If so, you probably don't have enough VRAM. As memory recalls, the stock config is 256k - just enough to drive a 12" @ 512x384. Perhaps that 640x480 AppleColor High Resolution RGB monitor needs that 512k VRAM module**checks AppleSpec** well it says that you can run 640x480 with 4 bit color using the stock VRAM....there goes my first guess some basic stuff: -try zapping PRAM (cmnd+option+P+R) -press the motherboard reset button (i do believe its red on the LC) -hmmm, make sure that you plugged the monitor in before you turned the computer on. (thats a given though)
then again, it might just be your "high density" cable FireWire is fast General, 4 star Forum moderator 68k Macintosh Liberation Army |

It is an original LC with VRAM installed (one SIMM with two chips, 256K? 512K?) I already zapped the PRAM, didn't work. When I went hunting for the reset button, I couldn't find one. I double checked a motherboard diagram I found online to confirm that the mother board I have is an LC. Are you sure there's a reset?I didn't get the "high density" cable. They were out of them. I got the "regular" one. Still stumped here.

Perhaps I'm thinking of the LC 475 mobo...
-Try the monitor on any other macs you may have to verify that it works -check the video cable - disconnect and reconnect -Adjust brightness/contrast (the knobs are on the side of the monitor) -Does the monitor even power up? If not, check the power cable these may sound silly...

The High Density DB-15 is a SVGA cable like is used on modern Macs. There's absolutely NO way it'll work with the LC.~Marchie ~Chaplain Marchie 68k Macintosh Liberation Army ~~"We are all Mad here."~~ |

Yeah you are. No LC, LCII or LCIII had a motherboard reset button (although my LCIII has solder pads for one). The LC 47x series Macs had CUDA reset buttons though, and yeah, they were red. --------------------------

I don't have another mac that would work with such a tiny monitor. I disconnected and reconnected several times. The monitor definitely powers up and I tried tweeking the contrast, brightness, etc. No luck.

Have you used it with another monitor? Most likely it's a dead PRAM batery.666th poster to the 68K Macintosh Liberation Army Forums Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 5 |

That monitor should work with any Mac that has the DB-15 video. (size doesn't matter) FireWire is fast General, 4 star Forum moderator 68k Macintosh Liberation Army |
