Ya, so I'm gonna use my LC III as a little ol Intranet server and I install web sharing and I go to hook it up to the switch and um, nothin... no little green lights. I plug into my hub up in my room that has no connection to anything and I get all the little happy green lights.... What's wrong?Someone told me that the switch can dissallow AppleTalk communication and I may have to reprogram my switch... Well I'm on my iMac now with no problems. I also wouldn't know where to begin trying to reprogram my switch, because there's no console port just a dinky little 5 port switch from NetGear. Now what I don't understand also is that I have had my hub hooked up through the switch you know, and I get communication, (this was before I installed web sharing) now obviously I should probably try uninstalling and then reinstalling web sharing and see what happens, but I didn't really think about that till now. If web sharing ends up being a problem, any other good web sharing software out there? (links too... free for sure) ________________ foetoid, that's (fee-toy-duh) http://www.foetoid.doesntexist.com |

The lack of 'green light' probably indicates that you have the printer or modem port selected in your TCP/IP (or Network) Control Panel. Or you ethernet card is not working at all? What OS are you running? Have you set the IP address of your server to a static address? 68k ParaMedic |

everythings set to ethernet... TCP/IP and AppleTalk... I'm running 7.6 and the IP never changes internally.________________ foetoid, that's (fee-toy-duh) http://www.foetoid.doesntexist.com |

i have an lc ethernet card that is identified by the system and presents itself as a working ethernet card, til i plug it into my hub and i get no link lights or anything. I did some reading and apperently it was typical for that particular model to crap out in this way. Now, the bad news, I think i threw the card away and i don't remember what the model or brand was. I think i might have posted about it here a long time ago._______________________ Sgt. Thelip Heavy Weapons Specialist - 950 division Keeper of the MLA Tracker - mlatracker.dyndns.org |

My gut feeling is that there is something about the Ethernet card which is incompatible with a 10/100 autosensing switch. Your hub (if it's the one I think it is) is 10BaseT only. It, apparently, can connect to the switch with no problems.I'd try another ethernet card in the LC. (No, it's probably not broken, just somehow incompatible- yes, it does happen.) <<<john>>> |
