Well comrades, i'm back (i hope). The past few weeks have been a major computer pain-in-the-arse. I recently won a beige g3 mobo for $15 on ebay. It had an advertised "hosed" ide controller, but it wasn't a concern. I had a VST ata/66 card that i could drop in it. I purchased a case and power supply from old mac martin (who, btw, is the MAN!, i wasn't probably the easiest customer to work with and he toughed it out. I recommend him to everybody! Not only were his prices just awesome, but he was just great to deal with. BUY BUY BUY) I got a g4 zif/carrier card a week prior for my birthday that was in my 8600...

So all the stuff in the 8600 went in the beige g3 and i've spent the past 2 weeks trouble shooting it. First off, i made the greatest mistake ever, i didn't format the drive or even install a new system over the existing one, I just dropped my 40 gig drive in the beige g4. I added a usb card, pci radeon, and the ata card (assuming the ata bus was bad). Well, i'll keep this short and say that this was my results.

Ata bus works fine
VST card corrupts data with rev c rom and kernel panics with rev a at startup
rev a rom works with the g4 (clocked at 466)
quartz extreme hack freezes the system in medal of honor and during dvd playback
clean installs are your friend.
I've earned the title of "the colonel" (you know, kernel, kernel panic), from my mac friends, so my sig might have to change.

I think that's it. I also bought 3 128 dimms from bestbuy for 9.99 each! it's a long story, but they left an expired price on a hidden shelf of ram and stuff and so i got the after-rebate price at the counter. I thought that rocks.

there's a woman at my church that is waiting to get a pc from her daughter then she's giving me her mint beige g3 AIO!!!! I hope it works out, it's a very nice looking machine.

btw, does anybody have a audio personality card that they are willing to sell? I'm using a borrowed one, but i need to replace it asap. Thanks

btw part 2, I found out that the EIMS created an "open relay" which after about 2 weeks was swamped with countless hacker/spammer attempts and I had to shut it down. (webstar is sweet...) This brings an end to all my running 68k macs. I've got an 8500 (g3 300) as web/email/tracker and the 8600 (stock mach 5 300mhz) as my secondary system with cd burner and file/mp3 server.

HOORAY FOR FRANKENMACS!

I'm glad the "Beige G4" is working, finally!

Sounds like good times!
Seriously though, glad everything got somewhat back to normal, hope it only gets better and better.

There is only one path and that is the path that you take, but you can take more than one path.
