For further proof that 68k macs were among the best machines, I offer this following anecdote:I had my beloved IIsi. I did something stupid, something that the manuals all say not to do, but I didn't pay attention to. I hot-swapped printers. This never caused problems before, but I think she was having a bad day. I heard a pop and she went dead. Nothing I tried could resurrect my love. Sadly, I (unable to destroy her) put her in the closet. About a year later, I, for unknown reasons, plugged her in and pressed the button. She came back! I am convinced that she has gained rudimentary sentience, and was healing herself. She runs better than ever now. This is a thing I just don't see in newer models of computer, this gain of personality outside of what the hardware was built for. Wow. I thought that other than sound input/output devices, serial devices were the only devices you're allowed to hot-swap on older Macs. I've done it millions of times. Haven't had it bust a serial port yet. Pizzabox LCs RULE!!!!!!! Warrior maclover5 68k Macintosh Liberation Army Number of 68ks Liberated: 5 |

While it is okay to hot-swap serial devices, serial ports can still die, mysteriously. The modem port on my 7500 died about a year or so ago, so I just got a 4-port serisl switch box and put it on the printer port. Although, all I ever use it for now is AppleTalking with any of my macs that don't have ethernet.Private EL CINE 68K Macintosh Liberation Army Master of the Mac II series forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 4 |

I could've sworn that the manuals said not to unplug anything unless the computer was shut down... hm.
