My church jazz combo was practicing today - we have a gig this Sunday - and I asked all of the musicians if they had any old Macs sitting around. The drummer/pianist said that he had some sort of old Apple with a keyboard, mouse, and printer. He told me that it "had a monitor, but no CPU, and it's in color" and he described it as being about the size of my 5400. He didn't know the model number, though. He said he'll bring it to me at practice tomorrow, though. Hopefully it's an LC 5xx machine, or a 5400/5500.

Alright! A few years ago I had a neighbor who had a 5xxx that I tried to get from them, since they never used it, but they wouldn't budge.

It's an LC 575, 250 MB HD, 36 MB RAM. Not a bad Mac. Anyone know a good place to get a full '040 for it?

If you're so inclined the 575 mobo makes a great ColorClassic upgrade. Otherwise, you can get a 33MHz full '040 chip out of a Quadra 650, 800 or 950. You can also use a 25MHz full '040 out of a 660av, Quadra 700 or Quadra 900.

I'm thinking of trading my 6100 for the Color Classic at a church school run by the father of a friend of mine. The school doesn't seem to realize what they have. Then I'll swap the 575 logicboard into the Color Classic.

As for a full 040, I talked with someone at school who has one from a Quadra 700 he stripped. I think he'll let me have it for free.
