My good buddy Joe delivery driver rocked up today with a Quadra 660 AV. Yay!

Now this baby brings back some memories... After university I spent a period of about 5 years without so much as laying a finger on a computer keyboard. The machine that got me back on track was a 660 AV with a 15" AV monitor and the olde apple ergo split keyboard. I taught myself pagemaker and photoshop on it, and basically I can blame this old mac for the career that I now follow - graphic design.

My new toy is in immaculate condition, except some clumsy idiot snapped off one of the case latches. Its going to need a bit of turbocharging, but thats half the fun, right? Its first task is to be a host for my oneScanner, however my crystal ball tells me that a RAM injection, a big mama hard drive and a SpigotPro AV board will be just the ticket to turn this *****cat into a snarling tiger.

Cheers!

Those darn things come off like butter on a hot knife, I've seen many it that condition. I've personally broke one myself, I tried to glue it, but that didn't work - DUCT TAPE!!!

My 660av is dead...

I'm gonna swap the full '040 chip into my 475, tho!

Cine> exactly the thing I plan to do... :-D
Got a good LC475 and a sometimes malfunctioning 660AV.

Is it just as simple as:
1. get 68LC04 out of LC475
2. get 68040 out of 660 (it's a centris btw)
3. put 68040 into LC475?
(I can hardly imagine this is all ;-) )

Oh, and what about the FPU of the 660AV? I ever understood that one. Is it integrated into the 68040?

Whats wrong with the 660AV, better fix it if possible than trash it.
YEs, that is the correct method.

The FPU is integrated onto the chip, yes, so all you have to do is swap them!

Nothing seriously wrong with the Centris 660AV.

When you turn it on, first it doesn't boot. You can hear the disk spin, with the periodical check AV computers perform, but nothing happens; the screen stays black as well.
Second time around it boots.

Furthermore, it refuses to boot from the caddy-type cdromdrive, and sometimes refuses to read from it as well.

I only happen to like the 475 much better than the 660, don't ask why. Maybe downgrading the thing from 8.1 to 7.5 would help?

You're off the hook on this one Flash... that was one of my old 6100 that you vandalised. The 660 was done for by a different clumsy idiot.

Cheers!

Sometimes I wonder how some people manage to operate a pilsener for sampling more than a couple of barley sodas!

Grrrr... not another one... :-\

That sets the total of prambatteries to renew to 9:
Centris 660AV - PB5300 - PB160 - PB180 - PowerMac 7200 - Classic - SE - Plus - IIx (in order of importance... :-) ).
Oh well, it' no wonder after so many years these things die.
