This morning, I went into the local Goodwill thrift store (Place Of Boundless Wonder), where I was lucky enough to find a new Nintendo GameCube, for only $50! Well, I suppose it was really $100, but I had a student coupon, which got me 50% off my purchase! Score!!! Anyone recommend some GC games? Thanks, SpaceBoy </bragging>AppleBASIC FOREVER! ooOOoo... maybe there's a way to port MacOS to that nice little cube, create a hard drive and hack a keyboard/mouse.... bwahaha.... then get the gameboy link and maybe there's a way to use that as a little auxillery screen...but other than that, Animal Farm seems a good one, haven't played any GC games though :( oh, i liked simpsons road rage when i played that on XBOX (also not mine) Official 68k videographer |

i havent played a lot of single player games on gamecube, but my friends seem to like resident evil and eternal darkness (if you're into that 3rd person horror/adventure stuff). starfox, super mario sunshine (i havent played them, but i hear they're good). my picks are super smash bros. and super monkey ball 2, which are best if you have friends to play with.-- Performa 630 LCIII SE |

Thanks for the tips, guys! My girlfriend has Animal Crossing, and boy is it wierd! The animal-talk totally creeps me out! I just went to the local GameStop, where I grabbed a used copy of Mario: Sunshine, which I've not played yet... but hey, it's Mario! How bad can it be, right? I'd love to get this thing hacked up all nice, with a real OS, HDD, KB, etc... maybe with time, eh? I could turn this thing into my own super-Pippin! Later, SpaceBoyAppleBASIC FOREVER! mario sunshine rocks! Also, starwars is a good one (if you like starwars...) and Super Monkey Ball is great game for when your friends are over.

Well, folks, before you have a stroke, I may not have gotten such a great deal on this thing after all... As I mentioned, I picked up Mario: Sunshine, but now I'm getting strange crashes/freezes while playing. Out of the blue (even if I'm not playing the game- just letting it sit idle), the screen will go black, and it'll tell me that "There has been an error. Please reset the system."! Grrrrr.... What I'm wondering is, since it came with the reg. card, if I send it in, do you think I can get it serviced? I doubt it, but you never know, right? How would Nintendo know that I bought it 'used'? Either way, it seems to play other games fine (Smash Bros., Simpsons Racing) with no errors, so maybe I'm just doing something wrong. I don't think I am, but you never know... :-) SpaceBoy PS And yes, I've tried two different copies of Mario.AppleBASIC FOREVER! Yeah, it'd be the 'Cube. Nintendo has a pretty liberal returns policy, contact their service centre.~Coxy - Leader, Tactical Operations Unit Mayor of NuBus City v3.0

They can't. If you have the warranty and the registration card you can register it as purchased in your name and then be legally entitled to a replacement item under the warranty. I just wish more people that buy new stuff would bother to read the warranty for them, you can often get stuff swapped for new for even minor faults. Look out for hard disks with long-term of lifetime warranties on them, you cn swap any hard disk that dies of it's own accord for a new one if it's still in warranty. I know a lot of folks who have done it on pretty old drives and gotten better ones back 'cause theirs were on longer in circulation. This is especially good if you have a vedor built PC, often the drives are still under warranty long after the PC's warranty expires. As for GameCube games the Super Monkey Ball (and I presume 2) kick ass, as do Super Smash Bros. Melee and Star Wars Rouge Leader. I also hear thru the grapevine (I haven't got one but a guy I was at Uni with got one the day they were released to add to his already kick-a$$ PC) that Res. Evil also is the Dog's kahoonas. -- Mark Benson FlatPackMacs http://fpm.gotdns.com 2nd Lieutenant - 68kMLA, LC Quartermaster Flat Packing Macs for 68k MLA airlift excercises Macs Liberated = 14! |

check the disk of mario. it sounds like it has some sort of defect or deep scratch, and when it tries to access that part of the disk it cannot, and the game crashes. when my friend rented a gamecube for his birthday (it was SWEET and we stayed up 'till 3:30 playing bond, and I was winning until the 2L bottle of pop (which I was the only one to drink out of) ran out, and I fell to the floor, sleeping) and he rented monkey ball (it's addictive game, but not atari 2600 addictive) and we were getting really weird crashes, so we popped out the disk, and it had this really deep scratch all the way down the disk. when he brought it back, he got a refund, which was good. check disk, if scratched, repair. if deeply scrached, return the game (if you have a recept) THnXXXXXXNXNXNXNXNXNXN "the next time I catch you, I'll shoot you in the face."
