They have rca inputs on the back to hook to the old external cd rom drives. They have the quality of small bookshelf speakers, but they are old. You are better off buying a new pair. There are some things that have the Apple logo on them that don't make sense.

I'm not sure you can get a better pair of new ones for the same money if they cost under $40 shipped. I've bought two pairs of speakers in the $30-$40 price range that sound fine, and have RCA inputs for use with my PowerCD (now with a stereo and VCR). But it was a very rude discovery when I found that only one pair had a headphone jack and neither had balance controls.

Sometimes it has to do with my being away from the shop, sometimes it has to do with bollixed cookies or which browser I'm running and at times I'm just feeling more Albanian than usual.
