Anybody have any ideas about the Nubus card on the left in this auction? It's the Sony DTL-H700, and from googling only a handful of Japanese sites pop up. The best of those was this site, which when translated says it's an audio DSP card that has a fiber optic digital audio I/O, similar I would guess to the one used on the NuMedia Nubus DSP card. What I'm wondering mostly is what applications it might work with. The Numedia card works with DigiTrax and Deck II, so maybe this card will too, but who knows. Since it's a local seller and the bid is low, I'll probably grab it just to find out. The only audio equipment I have that has a fiber-optic audio out is my Aiwa 5-disk CD-changer, but at least it would be fun to play with. 666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 My Site: http://cine.sytes.net My Hotline Server: 840av.sytes.net

Did you find this one? Looks to be an I/O card, not a coprocessor card, but very cool nonetheless . . . NAB IT! jt ™. Trash Hauler: call sign: eight-ball C.O. Yo! Marchie! Is "Optical Fiber Terminal" a networking standard for CATV or something along those lines? Could this thing just be a NIC of some kind for doing media work? Very interesting! Edited by - Trash80toG-4 on 04 Oct 2002 18:05:44 |

Yeah, that's the site where I found the most info about it. I really need to get a DAT machine to get some important audio off my old DAT tapes, and getting one with a fiber-optic output would be perfect with this card...asuming I can get any software to interface with it!!666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 My Site: http://cine.sytes.net My Hotline Server: 840av.sytes.net

There's some other neat Nubus cards on that page, too...like the "Sigma Design Double Up" or the "SAT-Sagam MeetMe"!666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 My Site: http://cine.sytes.net My Hotline Server: 840av.sytes.net

Well........one of the most basic/common cable types in Optics is 24 strand... ie 12 end points, since you need 2 strands per device (Transmit and REceive) That NuBus card in the Auction is a bit of a mystery to me... It looks to me to have ONE Fiber interface, NOT two, which would suggest that it's either input only, or output only... It's NOT a NIC with only one stand of fiber. I'm not all that familiar with Optics in Audio, or even networking for that matter... Most of myt experiance involves someone useing a flashlight at one end as I figure out which strands need to be plugged in... nearly burned out my retena! But in all Nics, you'll always have a Xmit and RCV. The one other thing I can think of, is that the card will send OR receive, blindly... that would seem absurd to me, but stranger things are known. ~Chaplain Marchie Admin of The WonderLAN ~~"We are all Mad here"~~

I'm guessing that it's either input only, and used to transfer digital audio from a DAT, CD player or other digital audio device with a fiber optic output to a specific program that can translate it, like Deck II or DigiTrax. Or, yes, it could be an output...to dump pure digital audio to a DAT. But, I'm leaning toward the former theory.Anyway, the auction ended and I forgot to bid, but since no one else did either, I'm going to email the seller to see if he'll let me have it or at least put it back up for bid seperately. 666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 My Site: http://cine.sytes.net My Hotline Server: 840av.sytes.net

Good luck, 'mo! btw: the txt on the .jp site leans toward it being an output to DAT if I'm reading the gobbledegook correctly.jt ™. Trash Hauler: call sign: eight-ball C.O. AC-130H SpecOps 68kMLAAF |

Ah yes, you're right, in which case it might not server my purposes other than for backup or archival. However, without someone who actually reads and can translate Japanese for real, one can't be sure. Babelfish only tries... 666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 My Site: http://cine.sytes.net My Hotline Server: 840av.sytes.net
