I may have one very soon, with the following:-

12 meg ram, 512 meg hard drive, power cable.

no battery!

What sound does the duo have?

what power supply cable does the duo have?

I will have to find out how long the cable will be.

Can I justify £59.00 for this machine?

If a £1 > $1, probably not a very good deal unless prices are higher on your side of the pond, shak. Try to wait to find one with a BIG RAM card in it because you probably won't find a good sized RAM card available at a reasonable price by itself.

If you're in a hurry, nab a 210 or a 230 with a lot of RAM in it to hold you over so you can start collecting accessories while you wait on a great deal on a 280 or a 280c with a small RAM card. Think of it as a shipping container for the RAM card!

The Duo AC adapter (U.S.) has a standard power cord socket in it and the cord is about almost 6'

I am looking very worried.

The Duo's are advertised on ebay are being sold by "2nd chance pc".

They want VAT on top of the price they are using on ebay.

I went to thier web site & found that they are advertising the Powerbook Duo 280c with 300 Mb hard drive for £59(£1 = $2) & they have the Powerbook Duo 280c with 512 Mb hard drive(as advertised on ebay) at £79.

They also advertise one with a 1 GB hard at £100.

I don't trust them & although I have emailed them with questions about the Duo they are offering, ie:-

What modem

what price VAT

what sound

What power lead & how long.

They will have to have some good answers for me to take it any further.

Basically I think they have advertised Powerbook Duo 280c with 12 Mb ram & 512 Mb hard drive for £59.

What I excpect to happen is that they charge £79 for said Duo + £30 VAT + £8 P&P & would they have the gaul to charge VAT on the P&P charge?

Hi There,

Thanks for your enquiry.

No modem I'm afraid.
The Ac adpater has a kettle lead connection. The lead is about 3m in length.
No sound output on machine alone - a MINI Dock would do that 4 you.
No VAT to pay - its included in the £59 + Delivery.

Hope this helps.
Thanks

I will have to ponder now.

are they saying £8 plust VAT so £10 for shipping?

The question I asked about sound, does the Duo have an in built speaker?

The Duo should have a speaker built into the lower right corner below the LCD screen.

Yup! Sorry, I meant to say what wonk did, but to add that Duo's only have mono sound. but I'm trying to work around that limitation using NuBus Sound Cards, testing with a PAS16 ATM, so far I have BEAUTIFUL mono only output. =8-/

Go Trash, GO!

We're all waiting ;-)

I have no working Duo Batteries so my 230 doesn't get much use yet.

The Duo should have a 14.400kps modem. There are two covers (besides the center one) on the back of the machine, one on each side. They fold down to raise the back of the machine. If looking at the back of the Duo on the left is the modem jack and on the right is an Appletalk serial port. The power plug sits between the center cover and serial port on the right of the machine.

I remember this from my old 250 and just confirmed it against my new 280c.

The 14.4k Duo modems, as well most if not all of the internal/OEM modems used in 68k 'book, are prone to failure and/or death. Consider them the weakest link.

ummm.. isn't VAT the UK equivelent to GST? because if so, then it's illigal for them to charge you it again, because it's used, so any nd all sales tax has allready been paid. if VAT is in fact a sales tax, then you don't have to pay them, and if they refuse, you can sic the police on them, but if it ISN'T some sort of sales tax, then ur SOL!
