I've got a PB 150 with a slightly messed up screen and OK trackball(just ok). Any ideas on uses?

Just how messed up is the display? I mean, a passive-matrix screen that only displays 4 greys is pretty messed up to begin with! Add to the fact that it had no video output and you're screwed up the rear with no protection.

Let's see, you can max it out at 40 megs of RAM by putting a 36MB Duo RAM card in it (NOTE: these are very hard to find and won't cost you less than $80), put in a 2.5" IDE hard drive with at least a couple Gigs...and....um...use it as a glorified word processor.

Sorry to be so harsh, but the PowerBook 150 was voted one of the 10 WORST macs ever built!

Alas, I must agree. I would say, sell that thing for all it's worth and get a Powerbook 500 series system.

I'd say sell it for all its worth and get like a 190 or 500 series PowerBook. The 150s, although they wern't bad, are road apples and are slowly coming to what i think is the end of their life expectancy. I've fixed one and i've got another in my junk pile for parts.

It's ok, this thing was my brother's. I have no great emotional attachment to it. I suppose it works as decor for my room. Yeah, that'll do

Even better... the elusive Powerbook 550c, which was only sold in Japan/Europe. Even better with PPC upgrade (drool...)

Oh hell yeah, Z!

I've wanted a 550c for long, long time!

For years I've been searching eBay for some naive Japanese 550c owner who's selling one, but have turned up nothing. One day, though, one day I will have that super-elusive Bonsai-BlackBook. A 33 MHz 040 WITH FPU and a 10.4", active-matrix 16-bit LCD! It's a Quadra 950 to go, baby!

ahhhhh...that's what dreams are made of, friends.

Apple claims it to be 4-5 hours, but you would be lucky (to find one to try) to get more than 2 hours. Probably less if you have the screen brightness to max and the hard drive running like crazy.

A friend of mine who lives in Chicago is moving to Japan in March, so I'm going to have her search for a 550c and send it to me!

One day...it will be MINE!

I was just looking at the TIL pages on the 540c cuz i was bored and actually thinking about taking your guys' suggestion on getting one, and it says it has a 66mhz 040. First, is that right? That's damn fast for an 040. Second, how come all the ones I see on eBay are all 33 mhz?

candyPunk: This was done by Apple to try and catch up with the Intel world. The processor is a 66 Mhz '040, but however the bus on the logic board only runs at 33 Mhz, causing a bottleneck. Therefore, the machine runs at 33 Mhz, rather than 66.

When you try to sell the machine, advertise it @ 66 MHz.
When you try to buy one for cheap, tell the owner it's a slow 33 MHz.
