yeah the Performa is gonna just live with os 7.I need to get it upgraded now :-) Performa 400 has; 4 meg ram hd floppy 80 meg hard drive 512 meg vram! I bought the Performa with a monitor & stylewriter II printer, for £36. I just made £30 from the printer so I got the Performa cheap enough! I want for it, hmmm two 4 meg 30 pin 100 ns simms. PDS? graphics or ethernet? ethernet I think so as to facilitate networking. cd rom. upgrading for this machine I want to be cheap, so a 2x cdrom etc. shaktiman Quadra 840av, 128MB ram, 2MB vram, cd drive(caddy),1 caddy!:-) 1.2 gig drive, 4.23 gig drive 3 monitors 15" & 14" & 14" os 8.1 56k modem, Stylewriter 1200, Umax 1220s scanner

HAR! Nice joke, cats. Either way... maclover5's supersecret SuperLCII (or Performa 400) recipe 1. Install Macintosh LC475 logic board 2. Add 16 or 32 meg (preferably 32) 72 Pin SIMM 3. Install bigger hard drive (160 meg minimum) 4. Add external 4x CD ROM drive or any type of CD-R or CD-RW burner 5. Add internal LC PDS ethernet card 6. Install Mac OS 8.1 Just a little note about the RAM: Its been said that LCs from the LCIII (Performa 450) onwards need single sided SIMMs. In a few experiments down at the Shop, I've actually managed to fit double sided SIMMs in there....just. Sometime these holidays i'm gonna try the 32 megger (which is double-sided) in my LC630 in the 475 just to see how it goes... Either way, good luck, and HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!!! -------------------------- "I keep my friends close, but I keep my enemies closer" - Unkown Warrior maclover5 68k Macintosh Liberation Army Number of 68ks Liberated: 6

I'm kind of in the same boat as Shakti. A Performa 400 recently followed me home (see my thread in Conquests) and I'm considering upgrade options. Unfortunately, it seems like the 475/605 motherboard would cost me more than the rest of the 400 did. Arguably, it looks like I could even find a complete LC475 on ebay for not much more than the motherboard. I wonder if I should consider something more humble like an LC III/+ upgrade. Anybody got a spare motehrboard they want to toss for cost of shipping? <<<john>>> |

Yeah like far out man,
but it seems odd that they only allowed 10 meg of ram, but I get loadsa vram. @ the moment I can only get 256 colours, how do I make the Perfgorma recognise all that vram? shaktiman Quadra 840av, 128MB ram, 2MB vram, cd drive(caddy),1 caddy!:-) 1.2 gig drive, 4.23 gig drive 3 monitors 15" & 14" & 14" os 8.1 56k modem, Stylewriter 1200, Umax 1220s scanner

It won't, that's 512kB of VRAM not 512MB! I expect gamer rigs to hit 512MB of VRAM on high end graphics cards within the next four years tho! Have they hit 256 MB yet? If so, it might be as little as two years! I laugh every time I see a recommendation for using 32-128 MB of VRAM! jt ™. Trash Hauler: call sign: eight-ball C.O. AC-130H SpecOps 68kMLAAF |
