I tried to get my Quadra 840av Hotline server up and running again today, but it's still having the same problem it was before...TCP/IP and AppleTalk mysteriously and spontaneously fail after the machine has been on for a short while. For instance, I was copying some files over from my 7500 to it, and about 10 minutes into the transfer, everything stopped. The Quadra was still functional (i.e., it didn't actually crash), but AppleTalk and TCP/IP were suddenly non-accessible. If I were to reboot it, they would work again, then stop workng after another 15-30 minutes. I ran Hotline Server, and was able to connect from a client, but when i tried to access it from work an hour later, it was down again. What the heck is going on? I've reinstall OS 8.1 on this machine at least a dozen times, and I reinstalled OT 1.3/1.3.1 at least half that many. How could it keep consistently corrupting itself like this? Maybe I should just forget trying to use it as a Hotline server and use it only for audio/video capture? 666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 My Site: http://cine.sytes.net My Hotline Server: 840av.sytes.net

Are you using a hub yet or still swapping crossover cables around?jt ™. Trash Hauler: call sign: eight-ball C.O. AC-130H SpecOps 68kMLAAF |

Have you zapped the p-ram/ nvram?-Danny "Windows(win-doze): A 32-bit extension to a 16-bit graphical shell of an 8-bit operating system originally coded for a 4-bit processor by a two-bit company that can't stand one bit of competition." |

It's going over a hub, which works well...the 840av is the only machine that exhibits this problem, and it was never happening before a month or so ago.I guess it doesn't matter, since I'm probably going to focus on using the 840av as a AV only and find something else to use as a server. I might just go back to what I was originally planning, which was to use my LC 475 as a server. 666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 My Site: http://cine.sytes.net My Hotline Server: 840av.sytes.net

was this the 840av with the jackhammer and raid setup? if so what kind of heat is generated? sounds like the ethernet guts on the mobo might be getting too hot to work._______________________ Sgt. Thelip Heavy Weapons Specialist - 950 division Keeper of the MLA Tracker - mlatracker.dyndns.org |

Yeah, it's using a FWB jackhammer to run a RAID, but I've had a lot of experience with the thing, and it really doesn't get very hot at all inside there. Leave it to the 800/8100's case style to push all that heat up and out...But, anyway, I just talked to someone on AAF who said they just logged into my hotline server fine! I can't access it from here from work, the hotline client says the host is not responding, and I am able to get on other hotline servers so it's not like the client I have is corrupted or anything...this doesn;t make any sense. Can anybody else get on it? Try using either 840av.sytes.net or the IP, 66.27.160.80 This is crazy...he says he's downloading stuff off it right now, yet I can't log in to it...WTF????????????? 666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 My Site: http://cine.sytes.net My Hotline Server: 840av.sytes.net Edited by - cinemafia on 24 Sep 2002 15:14:09 |

Ahhh, I figured out what the problem is. They decided to block the default Hotline port here at work, so i can't get into anything with a default or 5500 port. However, I can still get into servers with a 5800 and some with a 57xx port.666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 My Site: http://cine.sytes.net My Hotline Server: 840av.sytes.net Edited by - cinemafia on 24 Sep 2002 15:38:59
