I am going to Ryerson university in Toronto and taking a 4 yr program for business and printing industry. The best part is all we use it Mac!. Rows and rows of quicksilvers and Blue and whites. One prof does all her notes with a 2300 and projector. In every text book I had to buy they always mention gutenberg and mac. Always, "it was a very convuluted process until macintosh in 1985". One little munchkin of a computer get's into the same chapter as Edison and Gutenberg. People actually own macs in this program, one guy has a G4 iMac and another a eMac. We have some old syquest drives kicking around, 7200's hooked up to scanners and I even saw two boxes for Xserves!. It's great!. Just one question why does everyone say 1985 was when the revolution started?, was it the release of the Mac 512?. They mention Aldus Pagemaker but never the year it was released.

Later :D

From the looks of the Timeline:

I'd say it was Warnock's release of PostScript which became the basis for all modern imagesetting and layout technology. It's interesting that Bezier won a major Siggraph award that same year!

Try clearing your browser cache and then reloading the page, the icons in the forums can get all screwed up when they're read back from the cache after a while.

Cool, too. Bezier is (was?) a legend.

Yup! Beziers or really awesome. Back in the day, I had Karow's "Digital Formats for Typefaces" (1987), which touted URW's "Icarus" digiting format (tangentially joined arcs of circles ) for type saying that Bezier curves (complex polynomials) would never be a good format for building/digitizing typefaces because microcomputers weren't powerful enough to afford a way to edit them interactively in real time, IIRC. The Fat Mac and Fontographer nailed that box shut in short order and were working fine for me in the shop when I read it in 1988/89!

I just googled the title and he did a second edition in 1994. hrmmm . . . maybe the science library will have it?

I think I'll have to nick it from the uni library, what's the chance that they'll miss one little book?
