tonight while preparing some tricks to show a pc user, i found the port to open up on firewalls for appletalk to share drives and such. Port 548. If this is old news, sorry to waste your time, but i didn't know. So i've mounted the drives of a friends machine over the internet. I thought that was just the coolest. In OS 8 & 9 running OT 2.x, you just go into the AppleTalk control panel, enable filesharing and put a check in the box that says "allow AppleTalk cients to connect over TCP/IP". Then, the remote end just has to go into the chooser and type in the IP address of the host, and they should be able to mount any and all allowed disks on their desktop. 666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 My Site: http://cine.sytes.net My Hotline Server: 840av.sytes.net

it is quite simple.an old mac friend of mine and i were discussing what it would be like to have a "web" or "net" of a mla (or whoever) appletalk network via the internet ("the mla underground"). I think everybody here has atleast one mac that can run 8.1 and i THINK there was 3rd party software for appletalk over ip for system 7. Just a random food for thought kind of idea. We could each offer a shared folder of stuff, again, i don't know what the real purpose would be other than to say we did it. I think program linking would work, that would be cool, but slow. If you needed an app, just run it off somebody's machine. _______________________ Sgt. Thelip Heavy Weapons Specialist - 950 division Keeper of the MLA Tracker - mlatracker.dyndns.org
