Victoria, my wife's G3 Powerbook died today -- in the middle of web surfing everything went dead. No display, no sound, no HD, nada. Holding down the power button, nada! Holding down the little reset/PRAM-zap/power manager zap button in the back, NADA! Pulling out the batteries, unplugging the AC, various frantic combinations of battery, AC, button pushing, NADA. Removing the keyboard, and wiggling all the connectors and boards, NADA. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

And then, just before taking the dearly departed to the Mac Shack (local mac store/repair place near the university) I went to check the powercord. NOT PLUGGED IN!!!!! Yesterday, when we got back from a business trip, I set up Victoria for use at home, plugged all the cables in the back of her, dropped the AC cord back were the power strip was, but forget to plug it into the powerstrip. So last night and this morning she ran her battery down to zippo and died.

I'm laughing happy idiot tears now at the revival of Victoria, our faithful travelling companion.

Gonna check the power cord first next time,

It's happened to the best of us, especially in multi-user environments...

I remember one time i saw a PC with a "dead" monitor. Checked all the connections, and cuoldn't get it to work. Then i turned up the brightness knob on the front panel.

I found my LC II the whole enchalada!
I plugged the whole thing in! I MADE SURE IT WAS PLUGGED IN!
and i flipped the switch. nada. tried the monitor, nada.
tried another computer that was there, nada. anything else
that was electrical, nada. I was really disappointed. Then I tried
an outlet on a different wall where I saw people plugging stuff in.
guess what...
IT ALL WORKED! so I got all that cool mac stuff. happiest day

I once (still do...) had a monitor that was going on the fritz. It turned completely off while i was using it one day. I adjusted the knobs, restarted, etc. etc. Finally in my rage i kicked it, it flew off my desk, landed on the floor, adn has worked fine since. Boy they sure do not make them like they used to...

There is only one path and that is the path that you take, but you can take more than one path.

I thought for the longest time (YEARS) that my audiovision 14 monitor didn't work right. Sometimes, it might not have. But I'm really not sure! See, it didn't always seem to turn on. If I turned it off and on over and over or restarted, that sometimes seemed to fix it. Then one day I thought it had totally died. Nothing. Ever. Then I turned the brightness up...
