I thought I'd hop in the car and hit some of the local thrift stores to see if I could find some pizza boxen to rob a power supply from and get my LC III going.

Conquest #1

LC --$9.99. Hopefully the power supply lives. If it does, I'll stip it for parts because frankly an LC isn't really a very good computer.

Conquest #2
Centris 650 -- $15 but goodwill was having a 50% off sale, so --> $7.50. No ethernet, but an external scsi jack. I'll pop the case and see what I find. Hopefully it has the full 040 processor because ....

Conquest #3
LC 475 -- $15, but after 50% off --> $7.50. SCORE! 250 mb hard drive, 20 meg of ram, and an ethernet card! Plus, the previous owners did not wipe the hard drive! It booted into 7.5.1 and I've got MS Word and Excel on there.

I think I'm going to try and teach myself how to network computers, oh yes I do.

---
Also found, an ADB mouse for $.2.50, which is good because the one I have now was very well worn and is actually being held together with scotch tape.

Oooooh...nice. I know what you mean about the LC, and i'm hoping that you can get your LCIII going finally. However, i'm thinking it should survive. The power supplies in those things are pretty damn robust y'know. Either way, the Centris and LC475 sound look good deals...those are good Macs.

I'm confused. I thought all 650s had an AAUI port. Did they actually make a low-end version without it, like some of the 610s?

Don't take the full 040 from the 650. You can use it to run A/UX. Plus, IIRC, the 650 runs faster than the LC475, so you'll be wasting some of the capabilities of the chip.

Alas, the 650 has no ethernet port, so I'm almost 100% certain it's the version that doesn't have the full 040. Poop.

SAF is the whole reason for wanting to swap processors.

Dear Husband thinks the pizza boxen are kind of cute, and since they don't take up much room, I just park the one I want on top of 7600 and plug it in.

The 650 would not have that kind of approval.
