Yes, I tested all that. If the cord, outlet, monitor, mouse and keyboard did not work I'd not be typing this right now. 68K's liberated: 1 68Ks adopted to loving homes: 2 PowerMacs adopted: 1 |

What does it do when you turn it on, exactly? If it doesn't do anything, like no fans, drives, etc come on, then the PSU is dead. However, if it just doesn't boot, then something else may be dead...possibly the logic board. Either way, try switching power supplies and mobos with that LC you picked up. -------------------------- "I keep my friends close, but I keep my enemies closer" - Unkown Warrior maclover5 68k Macintosh Liberation Army Number of 68ks Liberated: 6

bleh! I like it a lot better when it's one of those silly little things, don't you? Swap the psu's, that sounds like good advice at this point.jt ™. Trash Hauler: call sign: eight-ball C.O. AC-130H SpecOps 68kMLAAF |

The LC III lives!!I swapped the powersupply off of the LC I liberated today. (I also stripped it of its VRam) The LC III booted into system 7.1. The stats: 4mb of ram 80 meg hd, with 5 meg free (7.2 now that I deleted some files and programs). There were some games on there, so I left most of them on. I kind of like them for their nostalgia value ... those 1993 graphics. There was also an installation of Microsoft Works as well as a CAD program (!!! considering that this macine does not have the ram to open it). The last regular user of the III was a boy named Kirk. Reading some of his essays and just looking at the games on there, I think he was about 12-13 about the time this III got put into a closet. (Which I think was around 1996, actually.) I'm naming it after him. My plans are to get an FPU and some ram and keep this as a machine that gets brought out and used when I want to revisit the kinds of games I played in Jr High and High School. 68K's liberated: 1 68Ks adopted to loving homes: 2 PowerMacs adopted: 1 |

most of the people who DO delete their files and apps seem not to have heard of norton utilities! I've got all kinds of stuff on different drives from several machines some of the best was from an investment bank! Live and learn, use an overwrite utility, avoid donating your data! jt ™. Regarding the personal docs ....I once bought PSION hand held computer and discovered that the previous owner did not scrub it. He had things like his corporate charge account numbers, all sorts of addys and phone #'s too. I couldn't believe that somebody had been so foolish as to not scrub that off. And as for reading a few of the documents I found on the LC III -- well, it was all homework, and I kinda enjoyed reading Kory Crowdus's report on Iguanas and the 3 page long paper he wrote about Michael Jordan. There were a few other documents whose title indicated they were of a more personal nature and those I wiped unopened. BTW, Kory also named his LC "Glennon" 68K's liberated: 4 68Ks adopted to loving homes: 2 PowerMacs adopted: 1 |

In the case of data on handhelds and laptops, the owners might not have had a chance to wipe the data before the machine was "donated" by a third party!jt ™. Trash Hauler: call sign: eight-ball C.O. AC-130H SpecOps 68kMLAAF |

If i was to sell one of my comps, i'd just remove the HD completely. It would be more secure than anything else, plus i'd have an extra hard drive kicking around, which is always a good thing.-------------------------- "I keep my friends close, but I keep my enemies closer" - Unkown Warrior maclover5 68k Macintosh Liberation Army Number of 68ks Liberated: 6

My LC came from someone who worked in the university vet school, and the guy who found it and gave it to me read through all of the files on it before he let me initialize the HD. Turns out that the LC was owned by a former co-worker of his, and contained some documents that were very interesting to him!My 6100 that came from my cousins also had some very interesting things on it: the "You Bet Your Head" game that I used to play at their house, some musical scores my uncle had composed, and some things that my cousins wrote about me. Very interesting. I'm about to give my PB 1400 to somebody who can get much better use of it than I.Believe you me, any of my personal documents will be long gone before I seal the box with packing tape. As for the PSION, I did buy it from the owner (or an unusually meticulous house breaker) -- I got the original box, manuals, serial cable, software ... the whole kit and caboodle. But yeah, if you leave stuff on a computer that you donate, people will read it. (And reading the personal stuff on a computer you do not own -- completely beyond the pale in my book) 68K's liberated: 4 68Ks adopted to loving homes: 2 PowerMacs adopted: 1 |

just overwrite the blocks with copies of a Big@$$ bitmap graphics file until the disk is full and then delete it all in rotating groups and replace again a couple of times with new copies. No utility required! If you wanna be cute about it, make it a either a soft pr0n pic and a note that says "so what did you think you were gonna find?" or just go with replicated copies of the note that says "tsk . . . tsk . . . tsk! ;-)" people who run Norton on liberated hard drives usually enjoy easter eggs, make somebody's day! jt ™. Re the pr0n bit maps ...Um, this is going to be mailed to the father of a Teen aged daughter. While the prolapse factor has an appeal -- I think I'll pass. No, I think complete initialization of the drive + a clean install will do me just fine, thankee much. 68K's liberated: 4 68Ks adopted to loving homes: 2 PowerMacs adopted: 1 |

LOL! I said SOFT CORE as in relatively innocuous modern network TV or even "marshmallow porn" as they used to call "Charlie's Angels". But your discretion is admirable, besides even today, most of the fathers of teenagers probably wouldn't run Norton Utilities on used equipment on a regular basis. jt ™.
