The best desktop was the Quadra 840av while the best Portable was the japan only 550c wich was the only 68k laptop to have a full 040.

Frankly, I'm not impressed with either or the pricing.

Skipping the monitor, both are roughly $5-$10 machines on ebay. As it is, they look like someone's bad idea of a "Buy It Now" pricing.

Seriously, if you can deal with getting something by mail, then I'd take a look at ebay or the LEM Swaplist. Consider picking up a system without a monitor and a cheap VGA->Mac adapter. Then grab a cheap SVGA monitor locally.

Well different macs are different & not nessasarily better.

If you want performance then get a Quadra, but there are some Quadra's to avoid. check the specs! go to everymac.com or somwhere similar.

Look for cpu speed, memory capacity, expandability.

It really does depend largly on what you want from the machine.

monitors can cost a bomb to send so sacrifice price & pick up an svga monitor, then an adapter which you should pay less than £5 for, but I paid £7 cos I was desperate to get it quick.

If a CD-ROM is important to you, then the nice thing about the Centris is the ability to add an internal drive. The Centris can take more RAM standard and has a NUBUS slot. Also, you can upgrade it to a 6100 if you get a free motherboard (BUT it is cheaper to buy a 6100 than upgrade its parts).

BTW the prices do seem high. Up here in Canada, a loaded 6100 is going for $49 CDN (approx. $20 US)

The prices are RIDICULOUS. Do not buy either. That link to oldmacmartin is good, and eBay is too. The centris 610 is probably better than the LC 475 for the CD reason, but either one with that monitor for $70 is terrible compared to what's available. The only problem is that you have to pay to ship them if you buy online. If you have to pay to ship these macs also, don't even consider them

Myself I can only see myself considering a handfull of machines;

Quadra 650
Quadra 800
Quadra 840av
Quadra 950
Powerbook Duo 280c
Powerbook 550c

I think these are the most "high powered" 68k macs

Don't assume that pricing everywhere in the world for obsolescent equipment is the same as in the U.S or Canada, comrades. If pricing is that far out of whack in the Ukraine, a shipment of macs might turn a tidy profit!
