I just dropped a 9 gig drive into a Q700 that has been broken into 2 4.3 gig partitions using Silverlining.I want to use it as a server. It took a while to get the Barracuda (Seagate) to show up as I had to mess about with jumper settings. When I did get it to mount (I think that I enabled termination and also had the drive supply it.) the OS 8 CD would not boot--I got a sad Mac. My Network Access Floppy doesn't mount the CD or show both volumes. Unfortunately, the volume that is not showing actually HAS stuff on it....Copyovers from the older 1 gig drive that I was using as a server. My big question is: Are there SCSI issues that I need to know abotu on the Q700? I am using an external caddy CD drive by Apple without a termination block on it. Thanks! Scott Strungis |

I often get sad macs when trying to boot from my OS 8 cd. Try again, and insert it right upon powering up, or turn it off for a minute and start it up fresh with it in the drive. What happens to me sometimes is that I select it as the startup disk and get a sad mac. If I restart, it shows up. Often trying to bypass the startup disk does not work so I have to select the CD and restart twice..I don't know if this is at all related (it's on my Q800) but keep trying it...What OS is on that floppy and what utility are you using? Try mounting with a stand-alone app that you could pop onto that floppy. I can get you a copy of FWB mounter that's only about 80k By the way - you'll need to upgrade to 8.1 and format that disk HFS+ if you want volumes larger than 2 gigs, once you get it working { candyPunk } { Captain of Observation, 68k MLA } { 68k Macs liberated: 3} { My baby: Q660av } Edited by - candypunk on 10 Sep 2002 21:06:35 |

The OS 8 CD will give a bus error if AppleTalk is off, IIRC.Official 68kMLA Music and NeXT Expert OpenStep Page at http://openstep.topcities.com/ Macs Liberated: SE (2), LC, IIsi, PB 145b, Quadra 700, 6100 (2), PB 5300, PowerMac 5400/200, Performa 6400/180 PCs liberated from Windoze: 3 |

On the Baracuda, make sure it's jumped to SCSI ID 0. I'm pretty sure it needs to be terminated as well. As for the external CD ROM drive, set it to a number 1-6, and give that a terminator and all should be well!-------------------- keeper of the website , master of the Quadra/Centris Stick of Justice™, and figure-head of the Peoples' PDS Republic -------------------- |
