I was just over at the local Goodwill, where, sitting behind the counter, I spied some sorta computer... Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be an HP Pentium-3 based PC, in very nice shape, with two 256-meg RAM chips. Plus, it was only $35, and I've got 1/2-off coupons! I was just about to buy it, when I hear a quavering voice say "Hey young man, I'm buying that!". I turn around and see this ancient man, who looks like he's about to have a heart attack. I'd been told by the girl working the counter that the PC was not being held for anyone, but this guy was so worked up over it, I wasn't about to beat him up over a lousy (okay, fast, but lousy) PC, so I gave it over without a fight... but just think of the carnage if it'd been a Twentieth Aniversary Mac! Oh, the humanity!

I feel your pain. Not that I like HP products -- but the RAM alone made it worth it. (Although, my PC is down for the moment with a fried chipset on the Mobo.)Tell you what, next time the U has another surplus sale, I'll post it here on board. They are *GREAT* for "computer diving"; no 68k machines, but it's where I picked up Phoenix for about $70. 68K's liberated: 1 68Ks adopted to loving homes: 2 PowerMacs adopted: 1 |

I'd sure appreciate it if I could find out when the various sales around campus are! It seems totally random when I hear about them... Later!
