I've got a problem with the PAS16 output from SoundEdit Pro in my DuoDock, it uses the Apple Sound Chip, which mixes eveything into very nice sounding MONO!!!!! FEH! I need a package that will play AIFF's and hopefully CD's that'll bypass the single lane bottleneck in the Duo's sound output system and support a ProAudioSpectrum 16 or a Sound Accelerator II card directly with a stereo stream. Has anybody got any recommendations for apps to try?

gobblegook support quote:

quote:

Sound
• Apple Sound Chip provides monophonic 8-bit sound,
capable of driving stereo headphones or other stereo
equipment with the same signal supplied to both
channels through optional PowerBook Duo Dock or
PowerBook Duo MiniDock
• Built-in speaker
• Built-in omnidirectional microphone; electrical output
of 4 mV, peak-to-peak, at normal volume
• Sound input: 4-voice sound with 8-bit analog-to-digital
conversion, recording at 11- or 22-kHz sampling rate

So far I've gotten no mpegdec output from the DuoDock/PAS16 at all, dunno what that issue is.

I'm going to guess that the sound apps are detecting and using the ASC and not the PAS16.

If the PAS16 drivers are ok then the sound apps should use the PAS16.

First things I'd check are the sound manager settings and the PAS16 drivers.

For my Digidesign card I install the DigiInit and DigiDesigns Sound Drivers including Sound Manager version 3.0.

Then I can select output between the ASC (8 bit 22050 hz stereo or mono) and the DigiDesign card (16 bit 44100hz stereo) using the Sound Control Panel.

I've never used a PAS16 so I don't know how to set it up.

When I found Sound Manager 3.0 on the Dev CD, I had decided to give it a whirl, I'm glad it was a good hunch! How about a link to or an email attachment care package of DigiDesign drivers?

What's the difference between "Sound Manager" and "Sound" I saw them copme up together in EM (didn't seem right!) and I don't always see Sound Manager available, do I need one or both? :-/ The Sound control panel gives me a bunch of choices for sound in and out and seems to default to the PAS16, but doesn't always keep the setting for speed . . . *tiny flashbulb goes off!* . . . maybe it's time to trash some preferences!!!!!!!!!!!

I've gotta get some sleep!

You might have to try more than one version of the DigiInit to get it to work Properly.
