I am selling my Compaq deskpro xl 566, at least that is to say I intend to strip it & sell the components. So far I have:- The keyboard 32x cd-rom(with 2 sled arms & 2 small bolts for attaching to the front of the pc) A pci? card for attaching an svga monitor. A floppy drive A 56k pci modem 530 meg SCSI hard drive, containing Win 95. What else can/should I strip? is the card with the memory on just a memory card? anybody want any scsi cables? or should I keep them? should I strip power supply & fan?, this does not look straight forward. shaktiman

Keep the case and power supply intact and sell it as one item. The RAM can be sold too.Wonko The Sane Engineer-in-training 3 Macs Liberated "You can't possibly be a scientist if you mind people thinking that you're a fool."- Wonko The Sane |

Well, that's not a bad machine, for someone who wants a peecee. Why aren't you selling the whole thing? It would be a lot less hassle...{ candyPunk } { Captain of Observation, 68k MLA } { 68k Macs liberated: 3} { My baby: Q660av } |

Maybe you should wipe/reformat the hd for use in a mac, I don't think too many PCs would need a SCSI hard drive. Most use IDE.Wonko The Sane Engineer-in-training 3 Macs Liberated "You can't possibly be a scientist if you mind people thinking that you're a fool."- Wonko The Sane |

yeah I may add the hd to my mac, if it dosnt sell.I am thinking of following cine's example & removing my floppy to make way for some higher powered media. Will my scanner(scsi) fit into the floppy bay? lol only joking. I have an external cdr, so I may put that in the floppys place. I have been advised to sell as pieces not as whole & this makes sense cos whoever is looking for a 1.44 mb floppy is unlikley to want to pay shipping for a whole pc, especially one that weighs as much as this one! I'd better go & do some work, posting on ebay. shaktiman Quadra 840av 128MB ram 2MB vram cd drive(caddy),1 caddy!:-)1.44 floppy drive, inject :-(1.2 gig drive 2 monitors 15" & 14" os 8.1 56k modem Stylewriter 1200 Zodiac speakers Umax 1220s scanner 3 year old son! |

Sorry to say this, but there is no way you can get a CD burner or any 5.25 inch device into the floppy bay, as there's not enough room in the case, even if you were to cut out a part of the frame to make way for it. I say you should put the 530 meg HD in there. -------------------------- "I keep my friends close, but I keep my enemies closer" - Unkown Warrior maclover5 68k Macintosh Liberation Army Number of 68ks Liberated: 6

Maybe you could just turn the Compaq case and PSU into a big external drive cabinet for your 840av! jt ™. Trash Hauler: call sign: eight-ball C.O. AC-130H SpecOps 68kMLAAF |

It could be good. but at what benefit? how practical? should this topic move to hacks? hey so, erm no. I need a goo big hard drive to make it worthwhile. also I too am keen on keeping things quieter & my compaq pc was noisy but I guess I could remove the fan. my cd burner(external) sounds like a jet about to take off! shaktiman Quadra 840av 128MB ram 2MB vram cd drive(caddy),1 caddy!:-)1.44 floppy drive, inject :-(1.2 gig drive 2 monitors 15" & 14" os 8.1 56k modem Stylewriter 1200 Zodiac speakers Umax 1220s scanner 3 year old son! |

Yeah, might not need the fan if you're pulling a hackintosh. If the cash isn't a huge problem, that's a good use for the thing!{ candyPunk } { Captain of Observation, 68k MLA } { 68k Macs liberated: 3} { My baby: Q660av } |
