Getting ready to upgrade the PB 520 to 100 mhz with the Apple upgrade card-any thoughts on which distro of linux I can use? I'm assuming since I've made the 100 mhz upgrade, I won't be restricted to Debian 68k. But, even if I am, is there a specific debian port to use? Thanks! |

Well, since the 100 Mhz upgrade is a PPC upgrade, you won't be able to run a 68k linux distro. Here are some low-end PPC linux options: http://www.debian.org/ports/powerpc/ http://www.penguinppc.org http://www.suse.com/us/products/susesoft/ppc/ This is probably the one you want: http://www.mklinux.org/Wonko The Sane Engineer-in-training 3 Macs Liberated "You can't possibly be a scientist if you mind people thinking that you're a fool."- Wonko The Sane |

Since your PB 520 will still be based on the NuBus architecture, as opposed to PCI, it won't run with any of the newer distros, and MkLinux is probably your best bet, but it's really out of date. However, I'm not sure that any distro will run with the PPC upgrade.Official 68kMLA Music and NeXT Expert OpenStep Page at http://openstep.topcities.com/ Macs Liberated: SE (2), LC, IIsi, PB 145b, Quadra 700, 6100 (2), PB 5300, PowerMac 5400/200, Performa 6400/180 PCs liberated from Windoze: 3 |
