I just got down downoading and installing Opera 5.0. Alas, the only connection I can get to agree to work on Phoenix is the PPP dial up I get from the U. 31200. Bleh.

I'll have to think about the system 9 offer. I do have a hyperfast connection at work, but to burn the CD, I'll have to spend an hour in a very public place.

Anyhow, I'm just glad to have Phoenix here up and running.

Congrats!
Just a thought- if you're wary of burning out in public, up on the 3rd floor in Special Collections, there's that PowerMac G4... which has a SuperDrive... hint hint....
Okay, that's about it.

Opera isn't that great on the Mac side of things. Try either iCab or Internet Exploder 5.2.

Not quite. I reccommend Mozilla. iCab, while its a GREAT browser, doesn't work on 68kMLA.com all the time, and Internet Exploder, is...well...Mordor$oft...

I recommend Mozilla.

Aren't the system requirements for Mozilla a bit high for Phoenix to handle? To quote the Mozilla 1.1 release notes:

quote:
Macintosh

• Mac OS 8.5 or later
• PowerPC processor (266 MHz or faster recommended)
• 64 MB RAM
• 36 MB of free hard disk space
• QuickTime (Bug 59059)

Even though IE is Mordorsoft, it's better than your other choices. It runs fairly well on older hardware, and the 5.x releases are pretty stable.

While I'm not that hyperthrilled about Opera on the mac, at least it's not Mordorsoft or Nutscape. Mozilla's out of the question. I've been futzing around with iCab for OSX and it's okay, so I'll probably give iCab for classic a try.

But let me tell you, Opera on Windows ... wicked keen. Renders pages as fast as Nutscape but is as stable as IE. Plus you have incredible amounts of control over cookies and popup windows. If you have a PC, give Opera 6.04 a try. You will not go back to IE.

Already Opera for classic is a better browser than Opera 5.04 for X.

I just downloaded fetch and something called Cinnamon websuite. Time to try correcting code.

Heh...i just rememberd. In Mac OS 9.1 on my PowerBook 1400, iCab works on 68kMLA fine, it just doesn't on X. Weird....

Either way, I say that iCab is probably your best bet.
