Well my new G3 is here, pity Jaguar isn't but never mind, one step at a time is always good. Once I got it rigged it took about 10 mins to install OS X 10.1 and now I just have to find all the updates!

I yanked out the original 12GB Maxtor hard disk as it was WAAAY too loud to have in a new style Mac. In it's place I put the 7.5GB drive from my 6300CD (it had a load of stuff backed up onto it as well as alll my MP3s so it saved me a good 5GB of copying over a crappy network connection) as the slave and my 40GB Seagate as the master. I managed to scrounge a 128MB and a 64MB DIMM to go with the 256MB of pre-installed RAM so now I have 448MB of RAM

It's really slick in 10.1 even running 10.1.0 so I can't imagine how fast it'll be in 10.1.5 or even 10.2. I played a 640x276 widescreen movie trailer for Star Wars EII on it and it didn't quite use all the CPU cycles, I just have to stay away from the dock while it's playing video as the Quartz magnification tends to make it stutter a lot. I'm also fortunate, in having a Rev 2, to have a slightly faster 100MHz Rage 128 which might help a bit too. I WANT to find out how to get Jaguar to run QE on a Rage 128 just to see if it makes any real difference. Hell it's all good fun....

Anyhoo, having loads of fun over here. WANT JAG-WIRE!!!

That sounds like a sweet machine. I wish I had 100mhz of bus.... 52.5 will have to do for now.

Anyway, from what I've read, the PCI QE will probably not work with the rage card. It's only working with the radeon and radeon 7000 due to that the radeon was a supported agp card, and the radeon 7000 seems to be close enough w/ 32 meg vram, newer, similar architecture, etc. It's worth trying, but as far as i know nobody has had success yet.

Captain Z found a great deal on the original radeon I think it was $170 new. They are still marked 229 at microcenter here and the 7000's are 130 just about anywhere. owcomputing has them. The original is a better card, but the 7000 is half the price.
