My Quadra 840av hotline server is up on a 12 hour trial!

Go to: 66.74.94.183

(no username/password)

Let me know if: the agreement loads, the banner appears, and whether you can download anything!

Thanks! Since I only have one "working" IP at the moment, I have no way to test it myself...

It says remote server not responding and if you use hl client on the same computer and puy in your addy it will connect.

Well I'm in! Dl'ing Jedi Niht to see how good VPC will be on my Dualie

Speeds are fantastic also!

Also, El Cine, Aren't you behind a router? If so, you will need to use that machine's IP to connect, it won't show if your getting outside access, bu it will let u "admin" or such. Usually the addy is similar to 192.168.0.2 (mine). If you don't know what it is, look in the top of the server's "floating" window. In there it says the addy that the HL server is running.

Hope that helps

I'm tired as all mighty hell, but I figured I'd get up and see what was cooking. Wow, 15 downloads already! Yeah, there's not much there right now, but I still have 5GB of free space on my RAID so UPLOAD! It's pretty much a free for all, upload whatever you want. I'd especially like some more games! I have a few more Windows 9x games toput on there, like Star Wars Rogue Squadron (my favorite) and Search and Rescue 3 (helicopter flight sim).

Anyway, what download speeds are you folks seeing? I'd like to compile anaverage after this test run. Thanks!

I think you need to create an "uploads" folder before we can u/l...

I'm getting 20 k/sec, but had 36 before. Not too dusty!

Cheers!

Sorry guys, I took it down for some maintenance. Added an uploads folder and fixed a couple things, still can't get the banner to load...?

Anyway, big news is the address is now: 840av.sytes.net

You can still get on using the IP, of course, but it may change in the future so stick to the DNS!

Well, I decided to leave it up all day, at least until about 8:30pm PST (about 9 hours from now).

I'm going to try logging into it from here at work, that is, if I can get the Windows HL client installed...

Damn, HL client uses InstallShield. I've learned that I can install certain apps here at work, but only if they don't use InstallShield and do allow you to install somewhere other than c:\Windows\Program Files.

Oh well...looks like you guys will have to be my eyes and ears while I'm at work.

Yo, Cinemo!

Have you got a dialup account in the family or a friend to borrow a screen name from so you can set up a debugging window at home on another computer right next to your broadband connection/server? It'd be slow, but even 14.4 on a freakin' Duo has gotta be faster than commuting between your server and your debugging window!

Didja get any info off those DRAM IC's on those IIfx SIMMS's?

Actually, as I learned, you can log into a hotline server running off the same machine that your client is on...i.e, instant troubleshooting! So it's all pretty good right now, other than the banner not loading...for whatever reason.

As for the IIfx RAM, see my trading post thread...

Kick arse! Thanks to scchicago, I was able to get a hold of the bare .exe and data files for Windows HL client, so I'm on at work now! Stop in my server and say hello!

I'd upload stuff, but I don't wanna upload things to a server that may not exist in a day. Let me know if its staying up andd then I'll start te uploadin'. After I make the ISOs of cource.

and about getting the HL client to run, I just had a hunch

yeah, it's going to down from 8:30pm PST until about 11pm PST tonight, and beyond that I dunno if I can keep leaving it on all day when it's using up the only valid IP. Damn you RoadRunner! I need to call them again...

Holy SMOKES!

I just uploaded some stuff to my server from here at work, and I got a burst rate of 142KBps! Not to mention a stable 127KBps beyond that! That's the fastest upload I've ever seen...I guess RAID's really do write faster than they read, eh?

Oooooooh! Nice! I've gotta try hitting 1.2Mbps...maybe if I run OS 7.6.1 instead of 8.1...and grease up the ADB cables real good.

It was off through the night, but it went back up again at about 10:30am PST. I put some new stuff on (like FWB's Hard Disk and CD-ROM Toolkits!) and moved most of the uploads to the correct locations.

Great server! I'm uploading a bunch of stuff now, mostly 68k stuff 'cause it's small and therefore faster to upload, but also some OS X stuff.
