Welcome to the 840av Cult, JT!

I don't have any extra CD bezels, but when you get it, I'd love to trade one of the floppy-style bezels for one of the two blank bezels (since my 840av doesn't have a floppy drive). With a little dremel-ing you could easily fit a CD through the floppy slot!

Nice! (weak hard drive, though!) Is that a video card peeking out of the top NuBus slot?

I do have a tray-loading bezel, but I'm saving for when I get an 840av

Yeah, it does look like a video card...or something with a DB-15 port, anyway...

I picked up a 840av from the surplus warehouse down in the ghetto a couple of weekends ago for a friend of mine, i dropped in my 2.1 gig barracuda drive and installed a system and everything and guess where it is now. It's buried below clothes and a beige g3 he just got. He hasn't even started it up yet! It's just a matter of time before i get it.

Whatever! I'm already hip deep in NuBus Video and Network cards!

i do need somebody to measure the actual width of the widest part of the case (the feets?) actual depth and height would be great to have too. I'm in the process of bending up a bunch of rackmount shelves for my . . . duh . . . rack! and i'd like to figure out if it'll really fit in between the rails alongside the Radius 81/110, i think it's gonna look kinda puny (LOL! at least i can make fun of my own now! ) in comparison tho.

i can't believe i bid on this thing! i gotta stay away from eBay! =8-\ I peeked in on a lark and was getting ready to mark it to watch and i realized that there was only about 85 seconds left to go! I shoulda taken my time, looks like i had my bid in with 27 seconds to spare!

Hey Cinemafia-
You mention that your 840 is lacking a bit in the floppy department... do you need a Mac floppy drive? I've got one or two spares, if you need one...
Just a thought!

No, no, SpaceBoy, I yanked the floppy drive on purpose. How else would I have been able to fit a CD burner and three 3.5" hard drives?

Actually, I guess I'm kinda following Apple's lead, because now none of my operations Macs (7500, Q840av & IIci) have floppy drives. They've all been pulled for the sake of hackage!

Well, I'm disappointed...

I finally opened mine back up to put in the extra RAM (now at 64mb) and VRAM and decided to install the DayStar Ram PowerCard. It turns out that the darn thing must be incompatible with either the 840av and/or MacOS 8 as it hangs with a flashing debug box right after setting up the RAM disks, but before the MacOS logo. :(

I guess it's time to put the RAM PowerCard back into the IIfx.

((((((((((((((((((((((((((((JT))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

What I have found is this,

The 840av is underpowered for what it "could" do. It is so frustrating, cos the basic computer is good but has the potential to be even better.

It is a good machine to "do up".

How many monitors will it use?

Up to 4, if you filled the NuBus slots with video cards.
More, if you pick up a few ultra rare dual-head NuBus cards or SCSI video interfaces.

I measure 21.5 cm for the width including the feets. 35 cm height but call it 36 cm cos the speaker grill is raised.41.5 cm depth to which you have to add the cables connected to the back!

I know this as such but was asking JT how many monitors he intends to use.

Well, I've got the CD bezel from a PMac8500 (now dead, sadly) that could be contributed to the cause. (Floppy drives are much appreciated, both for the IIfx (HD) and the SE (DD). Both are single floppy right now, awaiting hacking to double-floppy status.)

This idea sounds appealing to me.

how many internal drives have you got connected?

My Quadra is a pain with floppies anyway.

Also I could do with abandoning the floppy.

Really the mac(as I have used it) are hopless with floppies, the st was pretty good with them.

But my floppy drive is niether use nor ornament. I have made a backup of important stuff on a cd so I really wanna do this.
